Hudson Falcons - The Rat is Dead 7"
Out of Maywood, NJ we have the Hudson Falcons. I'm pretty sure that everyone is familiar with this band so I'm not going to go into much band detail here.
I picked this up while ago and just decided to sit down and give it a listen. I really like the pro-Union song "Unionize," So I guess this is kind of a Labour Day post in away. Since I have to work the holiday what the hell right? The title track "The Rat is Dead," is an interesting song the lyrics "yabba-dabba-do now he's dead too" is kind of a strange place to put a reference from the Flintstones, but it does work in a strange way. the last song "Latin Knights," about gang life is kind of strange musically. It reminds me of some kind of Tom Petty meets Bruce Springsteen mix. It's not bad it's just different.
This was released on Wicksworld Records of San Francisco, CA in 1998.

TVTV$ - We The Sheeple cs
TVTV$ are a band that when I think of the old fanzine Flipside. Not sure exactly why but it does. Maybe it has something to do with them being a Los Angeles band and Flipside being more of a Southern California zine, where as MRR was more Northern California.
Anyhow, I always enjoyed TVTV$ and this cassette was no exception. All the songs are pretty good, but my favourites are "Liquor and Weapons" and "Do You Play the Radio" Two excellent songs on an excellent cassette. I think this was also released on CD and Record, but not sure about the latter.
Also, this was one of my first in ripping cassettes to MP3's so the volume listening to it now seems a little low so you may need to crank it up a bit.
Released on Flipside Records 1994

Badtown Boys - Borrowed Time 7"
From Conga Park, California we have the Badtown Boys. Not bad rock and roll here and worth a listen. Sorry, I got no sleep last night so my thought pattern is not 100% right now.
Anyway this was released in 1990 in Dionysus out of Burbank, California.

New Duncan Imperials - Loserville cd
Okay, don't let the cover fool you this is some pretty good cowpunk/country music. I used to own this on cassette way back when, but I wore the cassette out listening to it, so I was luck enough to find a used copy of the CD a few years back.
The New Duncan Imperials out of Chicago, IL really deliver with this release. I'm not sure what track 6 and 22 are supposed to be, seems like noise to me. The rest are really great. "Tilt-a-Whirl", the title track "Loserville," are fantastic, but I think "Shit load of Kisses" about getting released from prison and going back to your woman, is pretty funny and creepy at the same time. "Running with a Fork in My Mouth," is a great song about how painful love can be at times.
A few covers here to, there is also a Tom Jones cover of,"It's Not Unusual." Rush's "Today's Tom Sawyer" and Hasil Adkins, "Boo Boo Kitty." Not bad at all.
So look past the cover art and give this thing a chance. This bad is really good, I have quite a few of their releases and have to say that all of them are pretty damn good.
This was released on Pravda Records of Chicago, IL in 1993.

ジャバラ – Why We Wish 12"
This is some great Japanese hardcore with a little metal thrown in for good measure. Jabara really delivers on this 12" ep. The songs sung in Japanese with a little bit of English thrown in occasionally in the lyrics, that really doesn't take away the raw power of this band.
Noritaka Kobayashi's vocals remind me of Cronos from Venom at times with his delivery. The Song "Chaos in Chaos," has a strange Black Flag/DK feel in the guitar into.
All in all if you are into Japanese hardcore this is something that you need to add to your collection if you already don't have it.
This was originally released on HG fact in 2000. This however was a re-release by Prank in 2002. (record collector geek info) According to what I have found out on line this is since it's the red vinyl version it was available only via mail order.

Turmoil in the Toybox - Messiah 7"
Really out there experimental music from Houston, TX. If you like this sort of thing you'll be in heaven. As for me this kind of thing is hit or miss. This would have to be a foul ball. It's okay, but really gets annoying.
They also are PETA fans if anyone cares.
This was released on Anomie Records of Houston, TX

Baboon - Save Me 7"
One word to describe this band from the Lonestar State: Weird. Baboon was from Garland, TX and I guess you can best describe the music as experimental to a degree. It really reminds me in a strange way of some of the Houston experimental scene like Pain Teens or Turmoil in the Toybox to a degree.
"Disappointed" even with the god awful trombone is pretty good, but I think "California Dreaming," is pretty good in a disjointed sort of way.
Released in 1993 on Direct Hit Records of Dallas, TX

Headgrenade - s/t cd
Headgrenade hail from Reno, NV. First off I love the cover art for this cd, it would make a great T-shirt. Second, I have no idea when this was released and can't find a release date online for this so, I hope that I'm not violating my rules of posting stuff that is at least six years from being released, if it is sorry, and if the band or 702 have an issue with me posting this let me know and I'll take it down.
Okay now about the music. This is a great release all the way thru. I should point out that I own this on CD and the 10" version to, that's how much I liked this release.
Basically punk that verges into hardcore at times and it is damn good. The only song that I really didn't like was the first one "Fucky Sucky," I found it boring, but the rest of the album rocks. "Stamping Mill," "Rash," and "Headgrenade" are all great songs, My favourite song has got to be the cowpunkish "Hick Song," what a funny as hell song. It's worth listening to it just because of that one song.
At times they remind me of Black Flag and Custom Made Scare, especially the latter on "Hick Song,"
This was released on 702 Records from Reno, NV.
On a side note. I really miss the old 702 Record Store in Reno. I only made it in there a few times as Reno is a little ways away from me, but it was a great shop. R.I.P.

Iron Prostate - Rock 'n' Roll Nursing Home LP
Another Iron Prostate post. This is much better than the 45 from last week.
"I am the King," From the Scum Rock post that I did a long time ago is on this album along with "Gilligan," and a cover of "Danny Boy," which, in my opinion is much better than say the Dropkick Murphys doing the same song.
The only song on this album I really don't like is "Hellshaft." The song just seems to drone on and on and it just bores the crap out of me.
Other than that if you enjoyed the scum rock movement, and I know there are those out there that do from the download numbers, here is another piece of that scene.
This was released in 1991 by Skreaming Skull out of Middlesex, NJ

Iron Cross - s/t LP
Okay, it's been a while since I've posted any OI so I thought I'd post this Iron Cross LP. Now I'm not sure that this is a bootleg or a legit release. It does list New Breed Records of Washington, DC as the label, but I'm still not convinced. I also could not find an actual release date on this LP either, so who knows and really does it matter?
There are three separate releases on this album. Side A: Tracks 1-4 are the "Skinhead Glory EP" tracks 5-8 are a Demo from 1980 and side B tracks 9-15 are a live recording "Love at the Wilson Center, Washington, DC 9/17/82.
This would have been a much better release without the live tracks. The live tracks sound like it was recorded on a boom box. The vocals are so muddy at times I'm not even sure that the track listing is correct. I almost didn't even include this side in the rip as it was so disappointing, but being a completist I had to include it to let you decide for yourself.
Side one is classic, and I don't think that the Demo as been released before, but I could be wrong. And "Skinhead Glory", is just a classic EP.

Iron Christ - s/t 12"
Iron Christ from Annapolis, Maryland.
Two thirds of this band (Tristan Lentz & Ned Westrick) where members of the Spastic Rats.
I enjoyed this 12" ep. If you are expecting black metal, inverted crosses and pentagrams this is going to be a little bit of a surprise for you. What you get here is just very good no thrills metal.
This was released in 1988 on New Renaissance Records of Los Angeles, California.

Iron Prostate - Bring Me the Head of Jerry Garcia 7"
Iron Prostate was out of New York City, and was part of the scum rock scene of the late 80's early 90's. Featuring Scott Weiss on vocals and George Tabb on guitar, Charles M. Young on bass and Mike Linn on Guitar.
I have to admit I was never a big fan of The Grateful Dead so when I found this back in the 90's it was a lot of fun to dig at my hippy friends with it. I just never got what the big deal was with the Dead. I used to ask the deadheads and all they could say was,"you had to be there." Not exactly the most helpful advice.
Anyway a not too bad 45 by Iron Prostate. There maybe more Iron Prostate posted later on we will see.
Released in 1991 on Vital Music of New York City

Victim Of Safety Pin - Polski Punk Underground 1977-82 LP - va
This is a damn good compilation of Polish punk rock, featuring music from 1977-1982.
The only band on this comp that I am really remotely familiar with is Dezerter. The other bands are:
Rejestracja, Deuter, Kryzys. Brak. Tilt, Deadlock, KSU, Nocne Szczury, Tass, Poe' Rocks, TZN Xenna, Kult, and Walek Dzedzej.
The sound quality on this is somewhat lacking in places, but that really doesn't hurt this little document of the Polish scene.
As far as I know this is way out of print.
Released in 2003 by Supreme Echo of Sidney, BC.

Intimate Fags - s/t LP
From Japan it's the Intimate Fags. This was a three piece band and as far as I know this is the only LP that they ever released. They did have a few 7", of which I have none.
This is pretty enjoyable. It kind of reminds of of the Circle Jerks or early Black Flag at times. This was recorded in 1999 and was released in 2001 on Rip Off records.
Cheers,
Brian Guy
