Sherbet - Time Change-A Natural Progression LP 72 w On With The Show LP 73 w Slipstream LP 74 w Life...Is For Living LP 75 w Howzat LP 76 w Photoplay LP 77 w st LP 78 and as The SHERBS - The Skill LP 80 w Defying Gravity LP 81 w Shaping Up CD 82 w In Concert CD w Anthology CD

REPOST Request:  Thanks for original requestor Farris for letting me know last week I had inadvertently separated out the Sherbs.  So I added live albums for both, got rest of Anthology tracks off youtube and added the last Sherbs album 'Shaping Up' that was missing.  Per Discogs:  Australian band formed in 1969 in Sydney by guitarist Clive Shakespeare. It wasn't until 1972 that Sherbet's line up stabilized and consisted of Daryl Braithwaite, Clive Shakespeare, Tony Mitchell, Garth Porter and Alan Sandow. They had evolved from a soul based covers band to a pop/rock band working with original material. During their attempts to break into the US market, Sherbet changed their name to Highway (10) to give them a harder edge. The band broke up in 1979 but reformed under a new name The Sherbs which lasted for a further 4 years and produced 3 albums. From 1999 Sherbet have come together to perform a number of times with the original members returning to the group.

Members:

Clive Shakespeare (Guitar) left 1976 returned 1984

Dennis Laughlin (Vocals) left 1970

Daryl Braithwaite (Vocals)

Tony Mitchell (Bass)

Garth Porter (Keyboards)

Alan Sandow (Drums)

Gunther Gorman (Guitar) left 1976

Harvey James (Guitar) 1976 left 1982 returned 1984

Tony Leigh (Guitar) 1982 left 1984

Formed in April 1969 from the remnants of two dance bands, Sherbet played for eight grueling months in a Sydney discotheque before being spotted by the young Roger Davies, who was later to manage Tina Turner and Janet Jackson. By January 1972 the lineup had settled to the members shown here. Between 1971 and 1978 Sherbet released 15 albums and 30 singles, 20 of which were consecutive hits. Named Best Australian Group in the TV Week King of Pop Awards every year from 1973 to 1978, they gained a sound edge over other bands through Garth Porter's Mellotron machine. In 1979 they changed their name to Highway, attempting to project a heavier image in a failed bid for the US market. After splitting, they briefly reunited as The Sherbs, this time aiming - in vain - at an audience their own age.

THE REELS - st LP 79

REPOST Request:  Reposting this for someone looking for their other releases if you have please link up in the comments.  From original comments from Jim H.:  Fun Fact: Reels member Craig Hooper did live keyboard work for fellow Australians The Church, in-between Reels gigs, ca 1984.  Oh yeah also looking for Rixboy more Dragons from New Zealand while you're at it.  Per Discogs:  Hailing from Dubbo in New South Wales (Australia) in the late '70s, The Reels took their new wave pogo pop into the mainstream with the release of their debut single Love Will Find A Way. A string of hits and chart albums followed over the years as the band's line-up continually changed and their sound evolved through electro, bent cabaret and country soul. A publishing snafu left founder singer-songwriter Dave Mason wanting to only cover other artists' material, ironically scoring their biggest hit with Credence Clearwater Revival's Bad Moon Rising - another act experiencing a publishing fallout. The band quietly bowed out in the early '90s as they were dabbling with house music. They reformed to tour and promote a best-of in 2008. In between, their haunting track Quasimodo's Dream had been voted by publishing association APRA as one of Australia's ten greatest compositions, and has been covered by many Australian artists since.

BUFFALO - Dead Forever CD 72 w Volcanic Rock CD 73 w Only Want You for Your Body CD 74 w Mother's Choice CD 76 w Average Rock 'n' Roller CD 77 w bonus tracks -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Well for all the 70's Hard Rock I have posted over 16 years, this band from Australia has to be near the top for capturing that sound!  Per Wiki:  Buffalo was an Australian rock band formed in August 1971 by founding mainstay Dave Tice on lead vocals (ex-Head). Fellow founders, also from Head, were Paul Balbi on drums, John Baxter on guitar, and Peter Wells on bass guitar; together with Alan Milano on lead vocals (ex-Mandala). Milano left after their debut album, Dead Forever... (June 1972), and Balbi was replaced on drums by Jimmy Economou. Their next two albums, Volcanic Rock (July 1973) and Only Want You for Your Body (June 1974), were also issued by Vertigo Records. After 1975 line-up changes resulted in a more commercial sound and the group disbanded in March 1977. Australian musicologist Ian McFarlane noted that there was "nothing subtle about Buffalo's primal, heavyweight sound, but it was delivered with a great deal of conviction ... combining the dense, heavy riffing ... with the progressive blues chops ... the band certainly captured the arrogant disposition of the times in a bold and thunderous fashion". Alongside Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs and Blackfeather, Buffalo pioneered Australia's heavy metal, pub rock and psychedelic rock movements. Peter Wells died on 27 March 2006, aged 58.

CHEETAH - ROCK AND ROLL WOMEN LP 81

REPOST Request:  These Aussie gals really do rock well!  Per Discogs:  Australian Rock band, originally active from 1977 to 1982. Reformed in 2006.

The mainstay members and co-lead vocalists were English-born sisters, Chrissie and Lyndsay Hammond. They released a solo album, Rock & Roll Women, in April 1982. The band's single, "Walking in the Rain" (1978), peaked at No. 10 on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart.

Cheetah toured Australia, the United Kingdom and continental Europe including appearances at Roskilde in Denmark, the Nuremberg and Wiesbaden Festivals in Germany and at the 1982 Reading Festival with Iron Maiden to an audience of 120,000 people. From 1982 they were based in the UK.

After disbanding in 1984, Chrissie provided vocals for Rick Wakeman while Lyndsay issued a solo album, The Raven (1997). Cheetah reformed in 2006 to perform in the Countdown Spectacular and a subsequent tour of Europe.

The sisters "were the archetypal 1970s sex bombs with big hair. They had tremendous, booming rock voices and were in constant demand as session vocals. Famous for their performance at The Concert Of The Decade at The Sydney Opera House steps in 1977.

VA - 1988 SUMMER OLYMPICS ALBUM-ONE MOMENT IN TIME tape OLYMPICS

Well, just a day off having just heard mention of the 2024 Summer Olympics yesterday, here is a classic compilation from 1988.  Features:  John Williams, Whitney Houston, The Bunburys, Four Tops, Eric Carmen, Odds & Ends, Bee Gees, Jennifer Holiday, Taylor Dayne, Jermaine Jackson & La La, Kashif and The Christians which features Ronald Isley singing the old classic 'Harvest For The World.'  I think that song's dream is closer these days now that we know:  1) Glucose burning produces much more energy than keto fat burning and the new enemy in foods is omega 6/PUFA/MUFA's which takes 7 years to leave the system and in the process gums up the cells energy production such that it must burn lower energy fats which is the cancer metabolism from damaged cells.  New limits of 5 mg max. per day (as we  need some) PUFA/MUFA's means no more nuts or grain-fed chicken and pork.  Also,, with less minerals and nutrients in the soil these days, you really have to avoid gluten foods all together since the long chain prevents digestion in the stomach and pulls with it the few minerals we could have absorbed with gluten-free organic bread which I now use. 2) With Morley Robbin's book "the Copper Cure" I was able to lower my blood pressure in 3 months after getting kicked out from the dentist.  You see, fertilizers block the copper in food leading to iron dis-regulation which makes us rust from the inside out as iron free radicals plug up the cells and doctors are clueless to measure this.  Only way to get rid of this extra iron is to give blood--not the double type) a few times a year (about 250 mg each time but you store 1 mg per day automatically) and follow Morley's RCP protocol which I have done for 2 years and loaded with energy.  Yeah, eggs must be free range with dark orange color and be vegetarian-fed like pork.

Player [1] - Game Over CD 80

Well it seems even ClassicMusic20 wants to celebrate the Australians this week per Rixboy's requests below.  This is the only album they did around the time of Space Invaders.  Per Discogs:  "Space Invaders" is a song by Australian songwriters Russell Dunlop and Bruce Brown, recording under the band name Player One (commonly stylized as Player [1]) in 1979. The song is based on the hugely successful 1978 video game Space Invaders. It was a novelty hit in Australia, peaking at No. 3 on the Kent Music Report charts, and ending up as the fourth best selling single in Australia for 1980.

The arcade game of the same name, Space Invaders, was released by Japanese company Taito in 1978 and had become a global phenomenon by 1979. The Warner Music office in Sydney had its own arcade cabinet of the game, which prompted the idea of a song cashing in on the game's popularity. They took the project to Sydney producer duo Russell Dunlop and Bruce Brown, who took inspiration from the Space Invaders game to create the song's bassline. According to Brown: "We actually went out with a machine before we did the record and recorded all the sound effects of it and had a little fiddle around with it".

Dunlop and Brown also released an album as Player One, Game Over. Dunlop recalled: "We sat down and wrote a bunch of space songs, but instead of sticking to the concept of the hit, we wandered off into the 'clever' musical genre with fancy time signatures, radical chord progressions and so on. The reply came back for the States that this was intended for 13- to 14-year-olds: 'You've lost us.'"

The single and album were released in the US under the band name Playback, which Brown and Dunlop had used for other projects, to avoid confusion with the US band Player. The US version of the album was titled Space Invaders.

The song was released internationally but failed to chart outside Australia. It was, however, influential in the history of electronic dance music, being sampled by Jesse Saunders for the bassline of what is commonly held to be the first Chicago house record, "On and On" (1984). The "Space Invaders" bassline was thus influential in the early history of house music.

HUNTERS AND COLLECTORS - Talk To A Stranger EP 82 And EP 83 w Judas Sheep EP 83 w The Jaws Of Life LP 84 w Human Frailty LP 86 w Back On The Breadline EP 86 w What's A Few Men LP 87 w Fate LP 88

REPOST Request:  Hunters & Collectors are an Australian rock band formed in 1981. Fronted by founding mainstay, singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Seymour, they developed a blend of pub rock and art-funk. Originally influenced by Krautrock and productions of Conny Plank, featuring strong percussive influences, noisy guitar, and driving bass lines. Their sound was in the vein of Talking Heads' 1980 album Remain in Light. They became one of the best live acts in Australia and according to musicologist Ian McFarlane, their "great achievement was to lay bare human emotions in the intensely ritualistic milieu of the pub-rock gig".
