Bakery - Momento CD 71 w Rock Mass For Love CD 71 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Per Discogs:  Progressive hard rock band founded 1970 by New Zealanders Hank Davis (drums) and Eddie McDonald (bass). They had previously been together in Avengers. Keyboardist Mal Logan (ex-Rebels, New Zealand), guitarist Peter Walker (ex-Jelly Roll Bakers) and flautist John Worrall completed the original lineup. Logan left by October of that year with the Bitter Lemons' Rex Bullen taking over. Vocalist Tom Donaldson also joined around that time as Worrall had exited for Ssarb.

Their debut was recorded live at a mass at St. George's Cathedral and not really representative of their Black Sabbath/Deep Purple/Led Zeppelin influences. Their single "No Dying in the Dark" cracked the top ten in the local Perth market. Not long after that success, vocalist Davidson left with former Barrelhouse (2) member Mark Veschuer slotting in. Kiwi Barry Leef became frontman in February 1973 not longer after the band's appearance at the Sunbury Pop Festival (documented on Various - The Great Australian Rock Festival, Sunbury 1973). Phil Lawson was the group's bassist for that fest replacing departed Steve Hogg. Lawson himself was replaced in August 1973 by ex-Syrius member Jackie Orszaczky (Syrius).     In February 1975, Bakery split up.

DRAGON - st LP 78 w Are You Old Enough LP 78 w Body And The Beat LP 84

REPOST Request:  Per Discogs:

A progressive rock / pop rock / new wave band originally formed in New Zealand in 1973 and they were based in Australia from 1975 onwards. They achieved chart success in Australia and New Zealand with their brand of Rock during the 1975 to 1979 period.

Dragon formed in Auckland, New Zealand, in January 1972 with a line-up that featured singer/pianist Graeme Collins, guitarist Ray Goodwin, bassist Todd Hunter and drummer Neil Reynolds. All had been in various short-lived bands in Auckland. Collins is credited with using the I Ching (a.k.a. Yi Jing) cards to provide the name Dragon. Their first major gig was an appearance at The Great Ngaruawahia Music Festival in early January 1973. By 1974 several personnel changes had occurred, with Todd Hunter's younger brother Marc Hunter joining on vocals and Neil Storey on drums.

The band recorded two progressive rock albums in their native New Zealand, Universal Radio (1974) and Scented Gardens for the Blind (1975) both on Vertigo Records. Despite being New Zealand's top live attraction by late 1974, neither albums nor related singles had any local chart success, and they recruited Robert Taylor (ex-Mammal) on guitar as they searched for a raunchier pop sound. By early 1975, manager Graeme Nesbitt (ex-Mammal), who had obtained regular gigs and organised their first New Zealand tours, felt they should tackle the larger Australian market. Nesbitt was unable to travel with them to Australia – he had been arrested for selling drugs.

Breaking up in December 1979, they reformed in August 1982 and achieved chart success again between 1982 and 1986. From 1982 the line up of the band changed frequently but always included the founding brothers, Marc Hunter and Todd Hunter.

Tex Morton - Australian Ballads LP

REPOST Request:  Thanks to Brian Guy who originally posted this and wrote:  This is Robert William Lane aka Tex Morton who was born in Nelson, NZ and in the late 1930's emigrated to Australia. Tex was a pioneer in Australian country music and died in 1983. This is a little like Stompin' Tom in an abstract way, this album is basically just ballads. The Song Kevin Barrie has also been covered by Stompin Tom so I guess that's a little bit of a connection there. This is not for everyone and there's probably a lot of people wondering why the hell I would post this here, well all I have to say is I have a diverse interest in music, and I hope people give this a chance if it's not your cup of tea that's fine. This was released by Universal Record Club PTY LTD, Pyrmont, NSW in around 1965 or so. Enjoy.
