FALCO - Greatest Hits CD 99 w Der Kommissar 12 EP (vinyl) 82 w Einzelhaft [Special Edition] CD 82 w Junge Roemer LP 84 w 3 LP 85

REPOST Request:  Well, they wanted the first three albums added to my greatest hits and fine 12 EP rip so I went to youtube and found actual vinyl rips to include...YAY!  Nothing touches my first hit ep rip though so enjoy!      Per Discogs:

Real Name:  Johann Hölzel Profile:

Austrian musician, born 19 February 1957 in Vienna, Austria and died 6 February 1998 near Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (car accident).

The stage name "Falco" was derived from the East-German ski jumper Falko Weißpflog, who Hölzel had seen on TV in the 1978 Four-Hills-Tournament in Bischofshofen.

A pioneering Austrian singer and musician whose innovative blend of pop, rock, and rap left an indelible mark on the music industry, Falco is best known for his international hits “Der Kommissar” (1981) and “Rock Me Amadeus” (1985), the latter of which made him the only artist to achieve a number-one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with a German-language song. His unique style and contributions have solidified his legacy as one of Austria’s most successful and influential artists.

From an early age, he demonstrated a profound interest in music, studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. His upbringing in a musically inclined family fostered his passion for the arts. He had a daughter, Katharina, with Isabella Vitković. Their relationship was tumultuous, and Falco believed Katharina was his biological daughter until a paternity test revealed otherwise when she was seven years old.

Falco’s musical journey began in the late 1970s when he played bass guitar in local bands such as Drahdiwaberl and The Hallucination Company. His early work laid the foundation for his unique style, blending pop, rock, and rap elements. In 1981, he achieved international success with “Der Kommissar,” a song that showcased his innovative approach to music. This track marked one of the earliest successful non-English language rap songs, setting the stage for his future hits.

The pinnacle of his career came in 1985 with “Rock Me Amadeus,” a tribute to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The song topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making Falco the only artist to achieve a number-one hit with a German-language song in the United States. This accomplishment solidified his status as an international music icon.

Throughout his career, Falco sold over 20 million albums and 40 million singles, making him the best-selling Austrian singer of all time. His innovative fusion of genres and his ability to cross cultural and linguistic barriers have left a lasting impact on the music industry.

Despite his untimely death in 1998, Falco’s legacy endures. His music continues to influence artists worldwide, and his songs remain popular on streaming platforms. In 2024, his villa in Gars am Kamp, Austria, was opened to the public, offering fans an intimate glimpse into his life and creative space. The villa, largely preserved as it was during his time, serves as a testament to his enduring influence and the lasting impact of his work.

Eela Craig - st CD 71 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  A big thanks to Josef from Austria who clued me on this great band and using them as extra selection this week while my ripping computer situation is still up the air.  Per Discogs:  Eela Craig was an Austrian rock band of the 1970s and 80s that combined progressive rock with Jazz and classical music influences as well as Christian lyrics. The band's name is without known meaning.

The band was founded in Linz in 1970 and recorded its first album entitled Eela Craig in 1971 with a circulation of 1500. Critics compared this album with established bands such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer, King Crimson, Gentle Giant and Colosseum. The band had a few onstage performances with the Zürich Chamber Orchestra in 1972, which led to more performances in well known opera houses of Italy, Germany and Austria, very uncommon venues for a rock band at the time.

The band signed a contract with Vertigo Records in 1975 to release a number of singles and albums, including the Christian concept album Missa Universalis and a signature ethereal style cover version of Chris de Burgh's A Spaceman Came Travelling, both released in 1978.

Missa Universalis was a musical translation of a (Catholic) high mass, which embraced lyrics in Latin, German, English and French languages. The compositions resembled the works of Anton Bruckner, mixed with elements of rock and electronic music. The premiere was performed at the Brucknerfest of the city of Linz and received positive acceptance.

The band was largely inactive between 1982 and 1986, but the two founding members produced solo music under the Bognermayr/Zuschrader name with Bognermayr's own New Age label Erdenklang. 1987 saw the release of three singles, which were targeted to match the contemporary Pop Music style. Eela Craig released their last album Hit or Miss in 1987.

On 17 November, 1995, the band reunited for a one-time live performance in Linz. At the same time, Hubert Bognermayr published a compilation of the band's music entitled Symphonic Rock.

Paternoster - st CD 72 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  This begins a second quad post using suggestions from Josef from Austria with all these bands highly regarded from the area.  Josef updates the Discogs write up that follows as: The band was founded in 1970 and existed until Ocktober 1972. In September of the same year their only LP was released and mentioned a month later the band split up.  Per Discogs:  Paternoster was an Austrian underground, progressive rock band that originated from Vienna (Wien), Austria. The band, inspired by Soft Machine and the likes, existed approximately two years in the early 1970's, and disbanded shortly after the release of their 1971 eponymously entitled album, of which only some 270 copies were sold. An original copy was sold at around $8,000 on eBay in Sept. 2015. Paternoster have made a comeback or two in later years.                                https://bestfile.io/en/MmLK3i8hNdjW21L/file

I forgot to include a comment of Josef's to go with this post:

You can also read an interview about it in It's a Psychedelic Baby Magazine. Here a band member wonders why Austria was so conservative in the first half of the 70s and can't find an answer. The thing is simple. We were the children of the Nazis ( and had a very hard time - it was no different to Germany).

Nostradamus - Aquarium Studio 1971-1974 CD -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Some really great bands from Austria this week as part of a quad post I am doing (second time) from highly regarded bands per Josef from Austria.  Per Discogs:  NOSTRADAMUS, an Austrian Astro-Rockband of the 70ties.

Mario Bottazzi (lead voc,p), Rudy Kronfuss (guit), Helmut Wind (b), Heribert Wagner (vl), Hans Kalenda (dr), Ernst Wondrusch (dr, perc),

Erich Sobotka (b), Hansi Lang (vc), Georg Chassiotis (cl), Mick Familiant (p), Henk Berendt (cong)

Their music was somehow influenced by bands like Gentle Giant, The Flock, Jimi Hendrix Experience, King Crimson and The Free.

They were a typical psychedelic rock band with sometimes very extended improvisations.

The band had a few radio appearences and played most of the times in local progressive clubs in Vienna.

Besides a certain love for astrology the group had no relationship with the famous french astrologer. Basically it was the translation of the latin phrase nostra (we) damus (give) that expressed the groups intentions.

NOSTRADAMUS suffered from the very conservative atmosphere in Austria at that time and finally was touring Holland, from where the band never returned.

When NOSTRADAMUS moved to Holland, Hansi Lang became the leadsinger of the band.

The band was playing successfully in many clubs all over the country - more often than in Austria - but due to working permit problems it disbanded after about a year.

Lazarus - st CD 73 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Doing another quad post from Josef from Austria suggestions to focus on his hometown (Vienna) country of Austria.  Perhaps the greatest bands from there...per Discogs:  Lazarus was founded by Peter Glatzl at the end of 1970 and they have played many gigs in Austria with various lineups until 1976. The album was recorded in Vienna 1973 in professional studio for Rex Records. Only 15 test pressing copies where pressed and only 5 copies ended up with the band members. Rex where known for releases of German folk music and Schlager. So they did know what to do with this far-out recording and did not release it.

Among collectors Lazarus was a big mystery since nobody ever found a copy for the past 25 years. One day Hans Pokora located an original LP and the band as well. The story of Lazarus is been told as a psychedelic opera who emerges as a monster from his grave to spread terror and horror.

All English vocals, amazing fuzz guitar all over, Zappa style arrangements, great vocals, tons of effects and tight drum sounds. Do not expect a naive Krautrock style, this is pure Underground as good as Open Mind and July with a good dose of psychedelia.

Backing Vocals – "Alvin" Waldner, Peter Glatzl

Bass Guitar – Peter Fischer

Design – Peter Hohenwill

Drums – Walter Spacil

Engineer – Klaus Kovarik

Lead Guitar – "Alvin" Waldner, Peter Glatzl

Photography – "Dear Willie" Giefing

THE TRAPP FAMILY SINGERS - Best Of 2LP 73 w Magic Of Vienna 2 tapes

REPOST Request:  What I wrote before:   Yes, this is the original inspiration for 'The Sound Of Music' film.  I added a cool cassette with instrumental classical classics to go with it.  Came up one song short with no times on the album listed so I would have had to go back and look at song lengths via the visible separation lines but the song titles were long and difficult so just left it numbered.  You can label it, how'z zhat?           https://gofile.io/d/xaZNmW

AUSTRIAN FOLK - ENGEL FAMILY LP w VA - MUSICAL TREASURES OF AUSTRIA LP

The first album above has a couple of great songs with yodelling and I would be a punk poser if I didn't like this since the first punk tune I heard that switched me from AOL collecting to punk hardcore was a yodelling hardcore punk song (Minor Threat - It Follows).
