THE MAMAS & PAPAS - The History of CD 91 w If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears CD 68 98 w The Mamas & Papas Deliver LP 67 (partial) w The Papas & The Mamas LP 68 w 20th Century Masters Best Of CD 99 w Greatest Hits CD 86 w Greatest Hits CD 98

Well I tried to post the one complete album I had (from Goodwill like all the CD's) shown on top but someone had scratched out the last three songs of side one, maybe not liking the 'Sing For Your Supper" song which I left after I cut it all up.  Such a great band and I re-upped my past rips of the Big Three and Mama Cass so you can search in upper left of page to find those.  Per Discogs:  John Phillips, Michelle Phillips and Denny Doherty performed in the New Journeymen, a temporary group put together to fulfill contractual obligations after the original trio’s breakup. In 1965, the three of them headed to St. Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands, to write and to rehearse. They were joined by the alto-voiced Cass Elliot. The foursome relocated to Los Angeles, where they signed to Lou Adler’s Dunhill label. After briefly calling themselves the Magic Circle, they took the name The Mamas and The Papas.

They broke up in 1968 and reunited briefly in 1971. In 1982, the group was reformed, including founding member Denny Doherty and two new “Mamas”: Mackenzie Phillips (daughter of John) and Elaine “Spanky” McFarlane, a longtime friend who had sung with Spanky and Our Gang. Another version of the band, including only John Phillips from the original line-up, released the live album 'Californa Dreamin: Live in Concert' in 1995.

Owners of Honest John Studios, built in John & Michelle Phillips' home at Bel Air, California.

The Mamas and The Papas were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 (Performer)

THE LIVELY ONES - SURF RIDER! LP 63

A top surf album in the genre (a song used in Pulp Fiction also) for sure and could have used a mint vinyl but happy with the result.  I had to redo the first song as the cuts made it sound funny so I left uncut for a rawer sound.  Up there with my Agent Orange, JFA and Ventures vinyl.  A couple weeks ago while I was body surfing 4-5 foot waves at my local FL beach and getting shot out after catching the waves just right, on one of them I decided to barrel roll my body going down the pipeline totally letting go and just about broke my neck since so close to the shore.  A first time try on my part that I don't think I will try again so close to shore...LOL

Joni Mitchell - Hits CD 95 w Blue CD 71 w Wild Things Run Fast LP 82

REPOST and ADD ON:  Most famous for writing the Woodstock song while not even there but for me I've known her "Big Yellow Taxi" song from constant play on AOR radio growing up.  I am adding the 82 album on hip Geffen records to this post and leaving up original post since I had a long rant in comments that kind of impressed me and didn't want to remind others.

REPOST Request:  Well, I argued till I was blue in the face with Jon who made the request that I was the one who should buy the RCA interview album that I am adding now since I had been collecting them like the recent David Bowie one I have been enjoying, Slow Children the very first I posted, Jack Green and many others maybe.  I first heard of Bow Wow Wow when my best friend moved to San Diego, CA from Minnesota in junior high and would visit all summer bringing back this band and Romantics who were big and also the mod scene teaching me about those bands and style.

Also, re-upped associated bands:  Chiefs of Relief:  https://bestfile.io/en/UXL9cSO08tCNt3v/file

JACK & REXELLA VAN IMPE - CRUSADE REQUESTS LP 72

This Jesus Music one is pretty cool with one side featuring Dr. Van Impe playing his accordion--an amazing instrument which produces the sounds of the organ, accordion, western piano, banjo, marimba and numerous other instruments.  Then on the other side are members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Al Yungton who accompany Rexella and the beautiful tenor voice is that of her brother, Reverend Robert Shelton, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Pontiac, Michigan.

BIG BOYS - The Skinny & Fat Elvis 2CD 93 w Wreck Collection CD 88 w Live In D.C. 9-2-1983 CD

One of my key bands in the junior high/high school skateboarding days--like my Big cousin in Denton, TX, big Texans with a lot of heart and soul infused into the punk scene.  I remember when their tune "History" came out on the BYO 'Something Better Change" album and featured in my subscription to Maximum Rock 'N Roll magazine for being such an excellent song.  Got to shout out to Gary Floyd [R.I.P.] another big Texan/Indua understudy with his very influencial words for me on the flip side of the Big Boys first EP saying "this one for all the FAKE BANDS!!!!).

Axe [Crystalline] - Axe Music 69 w Live 1969 CD -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Throwing in a third in this series for this week of Mamas & Papas as a huge unknown band with grace and excellent songs in similar vane.  Had to round up these tunes from youtube getting the best sounding copies.  Just had one little demo and a park show in U.K. but another CD of covers would be nice to hear if anyone has it.  Thanks in advance.  Cheers!

VA - ETHIOPIAN Modern Instrumentals Hits CD 72 03 - cc

TOP 100 RARE LIST:  Second to last post for this series which is really an odd list more than accurate like why did they only list the Misfits Legacy album when the Horror Business 7 in black vinyl only had 5 made and the yellow vinyl which I have was much more common and not rare.  Anyhoo, I digress, most of these bands are weird letters so not going to list them.  Enjoy!

Oral - Oral Sex CD 85

REPOST Request:  Mark Underground our humble blog creator mentioned on his original post of this band not to confuse them with the Swedish punk band as they are NWOBHM band of the period and a fine one I might add.  Enjoy!                https://bestfile.io/en/Guobirf4M3qtwTC/file

Ian North - Neo LP 79

I've had this from some old blog over 15 years now unopened so I'm glad when those random requests come in because this one is great punkish period piece for sure!  Per Discogs:  Real Name: Ian Pell North    Profile: American musician and producer (March 24, 1952 – February 28, 2021).

Originally the songwriter/guitarist with "Milk 'N' Cookies" in New York, Ian moved to London to become a solo artist. That fell through and he decided to start a punk band - Ian North's Radio in April 1977 - which soon became "Neo". The group continued until 1979, when Ian North released a solo album called "Neo" and continued as a solo artist.

In the early 1980s, North returned to New York City and established I.N.S. Studios (I.N.S. Recording, Inc.), which he owned with his wife, Deborah Pell North, until their divorce in 1993.

After Shave - Skin Deep CD 72 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  A great one like recent Fuzzy Duck, Afterglow or Aardvark in this series who have made top album lists and I hear why.  Per Discogs:  A heavy progressive cum blues-rock band from Switzerland.

A Joint Effort - Final Effort CD 74 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Per Discogs:  Trio consisting of Steve Anderson (vocals, guitar), Val Zukowski (vocals, harmonica), Graeme Srigley (lead guitar, vocals). No relation to other bands of the same name (the 1975 LP & Vance 45 in the discography are wrongly credited here to the Zukowski band, but I don't know how to remove them!). According to Zukowski there were only 200 copies pressed of the LP. The band later evolved into the Jones Family Band.

INDOOR LIFE - st LP 81 w st LP 83 w Searching EP 85 w Sunshine Superman EP 86

REPOST Request and ADD ON:  Another big  thanks to Richard (also below band in request) for clueing us into the realm of Patrick Cowley who produced their first 1981 album that I am adding to this repost and a fine one it is as his Sylvester work morphs into new wave and another 'missing link' in music evolution like the Midnight Hustle K-tel album I posted.  Enjoy!

Patrick Joseph Cowley - Megatron Man CD 81 w Menergy CD 81 w Mind Warp CD 82 92 w Rare Trax CD w White Trash Boom Boom (later band only one song from yt)

A big thanks to Richard for helping us connect the dots when he requested the first INDOOR LIFE album above which involved Patrick here who also was in SYLVESTER that I have posted crossing the gap between the dance scene into the 80's new wave scene.  A real key player who also was first well known artist per Richard to die from AIDS...here is the rest per Discogs:  Patrick Joseph Cowley (October 19, 1950 - November 12, 1982) was a San Francisco-based musician and record producer credited as an early pioneer of electronic dance music, most notably in HI-NRG and experimental genres.

Cowley grew up in upstate New York where he worked in local rock bands and eventually studied English at the University of Buffalo. After moving to the Bay Area he began an intense study of the synthesizer at San Francisco City College.

Cowley's recording career began when he was asked to join San Francisco-based artist, Sylvester, in the studio after Sylvester heard what Cowley was doing with the synthesizer and was excited by his innovative techniques. The result was the album "Step II" which skyrocketed Sylvester to international notoriety. The album landed Cowley a job as a back-up musician on Sylvester's subsequent world-wide tour.

Cowley remained close to the San Francisco club scene and eventually joined forces with producer Marty Blecman to form Megatone Records in the summer of 1981. Under auspices of their partnership Cowley created a successful dance-oriented 12" single that opened the doors for his award-winning "Megatron Man" LP.

While writing the music for his latest album, he also wrote and produced the successful dance single "Right on Target" for San Francisco artist Paul Parker which reached #1 on Billboard's Disco Charts. He reunited with Sylvester during the same period and produced the chart-busting "Do You Wanna Funk", also on the Megatone label.

Patrick Cowley died of complications due to AIDS in 1982.

CANDLE & AGAPE FORCE PREP. SCHOOL - SIR OLIVER'S SONG LP 79

Have been really enjoying these 'Birdwing' record label releases in our recent 'kids music' ongoing theme and this one has a fantastic variety of songs including a Hawaiian song for our theme below.  Like a lot in this theme could really be classified as adult songs for their depth.
