A chorale is a stately, hymn-like musical composition featuring a straightforward, four-part vocal harmony. Historically, the term refers to the congregational hymns of the German Protestant (Lutheran) church, but it can also be used as a noun to describe a choir, chorus, or choral society itself. Key Characteristics:  The Melody: Typically simple, memorable, and easy for a congregation to sing along with Four-Part Harmony: Usually voiced with sopranos carrying the main melody, supported by altos, tenors, and basses. Historical Roots: Originated during the early Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, heavily utilized and perfected by composers like J.S. Bach.
