REPOST and ADD ON: Another nice bundle for the July 4th holiday here and new post is the outstanding top double album shown by RCA Victor from 1987. Also adding one of my favorites the one with Trashmen on it. Here are the artists:
VA-ATLANTIC RECORDS: A big thanks to Antonio from Rocket Star Record store for letting me 'rip and return' the compilation on top as he wanted to keep it from my buy pile. I used to go to the local library in the early days of recording music--getting the Clash 'London Calling' vinyl to record as well as Professor Longhair and two different Atlantic Rhythm and Blues compilations that really opened my ears to great sounds. This tape shown is from Good will but had some songs I knew well so I added it and what I had recorded before from the library vinyl--the older 1947-52 beginnings of the label. Where I first heard the Eddie Harris and Les McCann stuff, King Curtis and now once again can hear Funky Nassau AND Funky Broadway, yes! Artists: Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Booker T and the M.G.'s, The Bar-Kays, Joe Tex, King Curtis, Clarence Carter, Archie Bell and the Drells, R.B. Greaves, Brook Benton, Joe Morris, Tiny Grimes, Frank Culley, Stick McGhee, Ruth Brown, Sam and Dave, Professor Longhair, Harry Van Walls, The Clovers, The Cardinals, Eddie Floyd, Coasters (look below), Percy Sledge, Otis Redding and Carla Thomas (look below), Roberta Flack, Ray Charles, Detroit Singers, Ben E. King, The Drifters, Beginning Of The End, and Joe Turner. Great, great tunes comin' too ya on a dusty road.
Christmas: And from the R and B artists some of which recently featured here at the blog: The O'Jays, Deniece Williams, Freddie Jackson, Lou Rawls, Darryl Tookes, Al Green, Fats Domino Dianne Reeves and The Boys Choir Of Harlem and Stanley Jordan.
R&B's Greatest Hits 79: I remember Pickwick has some great soul records as well. This includes: Eddie Holman, Lloyd Price, O'Kaysions, Carl Carlton, Impressions, Joe Hinton, Bobby Blue Bland, Del Vikings and Roy Huad.
Original R&B: Awesome old comp. found in minty condition at Goodwill. Features: The Trashmen, The Majors, Lloyd Price, Don And Juan, Bobby Day, Lonnie Mack, Larry Williams, Billy Ward and the Dominoes, Jessie Hill, Fats Domino, Wilson Pickett and the Rivingtons (Papa Oom Mow Mow again!).
Here are the new added artiss for the Revue: Lil Green, Erskine Hawkins AHO, Earl Hines AHO, Etta Jones with J.C. Heard & His Band, Illinois Jacquet AHO, Delta Rhythm Boys (see below link to Suburbs 'Rattle My Bones" as "Dry Bones" song is original of some of the lyrics), Johnny Moore's Three Blazers, Rene Hall, Cab Calloway & His Cab Jivers, Lucky Millinder AHO, Count Basie AHO, Jesse Stone AHO, Mr. Sad Head, Blow-Top Lynn & His House Rockers, Little Richard, Milt Trenier & His Solid Six, The Heartbreakers, The Robins, Du Droppers, King Curtis and The Isley Brothers.
I will note that all from the new compilation are also new versions of the songs and I had never heard the official Isley Brothers version of Shout before and that says a lot because I collect them.
