Had to feature the Duke this week after featuring the Count last week--all from Goodwill. I added the same Duke/Count CD as before to complete it. Per Discogs: Real Name: Edward Kennedy Ellington
Profile: American jazz pianist, composer and leader of his eponymous orchestra
Born April 29, 1899, Washington, D.C.
Died May 24, 1974 in New York City, N.Y.
Known for his residency at the Cotton Club (1927-1931) and for composing over a thousand pieces (often in collaboration), many of them now standards. Billy Strayhorn shared composing duties (1939-1967).
Father of Mercer Ellington, who took over the leadership of the orchestra after Duke died remaining until his own death in 1996. Grandfather of Edward Ellington.
I'll keep going as long as I can but Trump just shitcanned the company I work for with tarriffs on steel.

Dear Freedom Lovers
We’ve lost a true hero with the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk. Like so many of you, I’m feeling heartbreak, shock, anger, and deep sadness. It just doesn’t make sense. And when I think about his wife and kids—how they’ve lost their husband and dad—it hits even harder. There aren’t any words that can make this okay. Nobody has them.
But here’s what I do know: the evil that took Charlie’s life didn’t realize that his mission was never about himself. It was about serving God and serving others. That’s why his legacy won’t die. He built something so much bigger than himself—Turning Point USA now has over 250,000 members, his videos have been seen billions of times, and he’s helped countless people wake up to truth and share it with others. Charlie’s work lit a fire in so many hearts, and that fire isn’t going out. If anything, his death makes us more determined to carry his mission forward—to stand boldly for God, truth, and family. Evil thought it could silence him and scare us. It was wrong.
2 Corinthians 4:11-13
“Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you. But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, ‘I believed in God, so I spoke.’”
Charlie’s impact was massive. Like MLK, Gandhi, or Mandela, he stood against evil systems designed to divide and control people. He saw through the lies and devoted his life to leading people back to God’s truth—and he never backed down.
We can’t bring Charlie back. We can’t take away his family’s pain. That reality hurts and it should be grieved. But we can honor him. We can pray for his wife and kids and live in a way that keeps his mission alive—by standing boldly for truth and God, just like he did. Charlie gave his life for what he believed in. Now it’s on us to carry that forward.
Charlie will be so deeply missed.
With a heavy heart,
JP
