VA - VIACOMCMD RADIO MIX KMOJ FUNDAMENTALS LISTENING TAPE

O.K. then I mentioned last week in the Anita Baker post that my favorite R&B years in evolution was the stone groove like on this tape.  Thinking about it later, she was leaning this way but was more like the MF Doom samples of R & B with the rising ambient sustain in a couple of tunes.  Side one of this tape I recorded one Friday in college after going out to a bar gig I'm sure as I do remember being buzzed and turned on KMOJ and the Mellow Fellow was spinnin' these type of hits and the people that were calling at that hour that he put on the radio were absolutely in their highest state--many at parties going on.  Anyways I think I labeled it so generically 'Fundamentals Listening Tape" because me mind was blown and it was time to catch up with my music studies!  Had no idea these kind of outwardly crafted tunes were a further evolution of R&B akin to stoner rock.  Some of these lyrics stayed in my head all these years like Paul Lawrence's track 'Cut The Crap" with for example the spoken part I've used many times, "I've already been raised once by my mama and she did a hell of a job--know what I'm sayin'?" or "I get the first degree murder joint".  Some I didn't know who sang like 'Are You Single?" which my Sunday night in college KMOJ DJ Chilly Charles would play a lot on his classic 'Back In The Days Of Soul" radio show.  I guess the Mellow Fellow who was over the top on these song eventually moved out to L.A. to make it big I presume as Friday night was a tough one for me to make for a regular listen back then.  I have a couple more tapes I will post in time-oh yeah last time I posted a straight radio show recording, someone had asked if I can leave the tape uncut so I did this as an alternative which makes the songs file bigger with two copies but you also get side 1 & 2 complete.  Side 2 has some newer state of the state alt. tracks as well which kind of fits the new styles.  Includes:  Smokey Robinson & Rick James, Keith Sweat, Full Force (killer mellow medley smoove stylee!), Too Short, Eddie Kendricks, Led Zeppelin (I filled in at the end with my fave tune by them), Jan Hammer, Bootsy Collins (I think, it's a KMOJ 'Dusty" so you get that...maybe called Dugie Stick?), The House Of Love, Mike Hudson (from Pagans), Summer High track to go with above sampler. "Silver heels!"
