KARLA BONOFF - st LP 77 w Restless Nights LP 79 w Wild Heart Of The Young LP 82 w New World CD 88
REPOST Request and ADD ON: This one for mrRadio thanks for letting me know about the New World album. I guess I should have added a live album as well...oh well next time. What I wrote last time about this singer-songwriter from Santa Monica, CA: A personal favorite for a few of our regular visitors/commenters like mrRadio and ClassicMusic20, I took the hint as a request for her second album as it was touted as well. The reason I really liked the fuzzy guitar sound on the first album was per the comment: one of the reasons you like the sound of the 1st album is that it was mixed with a new (at the time) and really cool but pricey studio gadget called the Aphex Aural Exciter! Wowza!

I Prefer Female Soft Rockers Like Her (Along With Olivia Newton-John Whom I Love, Carpenters, Nicolette Larson, Kim Carnes, Wendy Waldman, Carly Simon) To What's Out Now. Cause They Feel Happy With Their Music and They Make You Feel Good and Their Songs Takes You Back When You Were Young, Listening to this type of music

Karla has been a personal favorite since I first heard and saw her in the 70s. I wish I had arranged an interview, but I've seen her a couple times more recently and got to chat. She is an exceedingly talented but understated singer-songwriter. Could be mistaken but I think she finds more comfort as songwriter than performer, tho her shows are always wonderful. She is friends with many of the well-known So-Cal artists from the 70s, and of course, her tune "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me" was made famous by Linda Ronstadt. They sound very similar but I do like Karla's own version better. What you have here is her 1st and 3rd albums. Besides the music, one of the reasons you like the sound of the 1st album is that it was mixed with a new (at the time) and really cool but pricey studio gadget called the Aphex Aural Exciter. This was a sound processor that gave vinyl recordings extra "punch" and dynamics in the right places without sounding unnatural. Made a record more "alive" and really was an amazing device for what it did. I don't know if it was a stipulation, but some albums that used it actually state "Mixed with the Aphex unit" or "Mixed with the Aphex Aural Exciter", including this album from Karla. I'm always on the lookout for those. Also note, if you enjoy the sound and vibe of the 1st album you really need to watch for her 2nd album "Restless Nights" from 1979. Just my opinion... the first two albums were her best, but can't complain much as her album catalog is so limited. She's still around and performs with a small ensemble. I only wish she wrote and recorded more.
Thank you for this nice post VCMD!

I'm Going to Re-Send That Wendy Waldman Album That I Send You Months Ago Because This One Is Much Better Than That Other One Because That One Was Sped Up and It Also Sounds Like Its from Vinyl While This One Sounds Much Clearer and You Can't Even Hear the Vinyl Static That Much, Cheers and Enjoy!!!

Please re-link Karla Bonoff.
Also, be on the lookout for her 4th studio album/cd from 1988 "New World" for your 70s-80s collection of her to be complete. It's a hard one to find because it was less mainstream, on a small labei (Gold Castle). Still... some good music.
