REPOST Request: Getting started early this week on Monday to try to catch up on reposts this week. Got this one as one of my first 'rip-and-return' from Rocketstar store and I see why: he needed me to tell him which the good records were when I brought them up to buy them at the register and I would always complain to him, 'then why price them and put them out on your sales floor?". I discovered them on the same old compilation with the Crystals "Uptown" song that got me to buy into them a rare record that I posted long ago that was quite spendy for me. Anyway listening to this again she really is a great artist and here is what Discogs says: Real Name:
Carla Venita Thomas Profile: American singer.
Daughter of Rufus Thomas and the sister of Vaneese Thomas and Marvell Thomas.
Often referred to as "The Queen Of Memphis Soul",
she was a recording artist for Atlantic and Stax in the 1960s and early 1970s.
Born 21 December 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee
BTW I will have to catch up and bring in Quincy Jones who just passed away this week.

I remember "Gee Whiz" being covered by Bernadette Peters on her self-titled album in the early 80s (the big track on that was a song called "Chico's Girl"). I'm sure that I've heard Carla's original version, but I don't remember it. So I have to DL this to refresh my memory! Thanks for uploading it -- "best of" comps are always good!

Thanks for input Angsty. I have to say the first few seconds of the song which is the opener was damaged and I had to do a little patchwork--cutting and pasting words sung again later in the song but I believe the comp. I posted a few months ago, that version is superior. This record is pretty old and beat up and it ain't mine. Search her name for comp. Enjoy!
