The Cannonball Adderley Quintet feat. Nat Adderley - IN SAN FRANCISCO LP 60

This one in our little CA theme turned out to be quite noteable:  The groundbreaking album launched "soul jazz", according to NPR, bridging "the gap between bebop and funk". Originally released by Riverside Records, the album has been reissued on CD several times since 1991 by Riverside and OJC. Remastered versions of the album include extended cuts of several of the songs on the original, including the retitled "(A Few Words by Cannonball...And) This Here".

Per Discogs:  Real Name: Julian Edwin Adderley             Profile:

Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was an American jazz saxophonist, composer, bandleader, producer. Brother of jazz cornet/trumpet player Nat Adderley, uncle of jazz keyboardist Nat Adderley Jr.

Born: 15 September 1928 in Tampa, Florida, USA.

Died: 8 August 1975 in Gary, Indiana, USA (aged 46).

Adderley was known for his rambunctious attitude to life, yet as a musician he was prolific, featuring on hundreds of releases during his lifetime. He worked both in many jazz groups, and recorded his own works under many groupings.
