JONATHAN RICHMAN - Jonathan Goes Country CD 90 w I, Jonathan CD 92 w The Modern Lovers - st LP 76 & st CD 76 03 w Back In Your Life LP 79 w Rockin' And Romance CD 85

PART OF THE SCOTT KEMPNER & LOU WHITNEY TRIBUTE POST:  Lou Whitney was the engineer for his Country CD.  What I wrote before:  Always nice to find Berzerkley (appeals to my love of Wacky Packages stickers from the old days maybe) label stuff and especially for this old First Avenue club regular that I have seen a couple times!  Party in the Woods has him making some zombie voices and the song Lydia is an old favorite as I always think of the punkest gal of them all Lydia Lunch.  Then from Discogs:  Real Name: Jonathan Michael Richman

American singer, songwriter and guitarist born May 16, 1951 in Natick, Massachusetts. Married to Gail Clook (1982 - circa 1996) and to Nicole Montalbano since 2003.

The Modern Lovers:

Boston-based band (1970–1974) formed by Jonathan Richman, recorded two studio albums (actually demos) which remained unreleased until 1976 and 1981.

For the reunited band with different line-up that existed from 1976 to 1988, see Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers.

After graduating from high school in 1969, Jonathan Richman relocated to New York City. Totally infatuated with the sound of the Velvet Underground, Richman made his entrée to New York with a couple of weeks sleeping on Velvets manager Steve Sesnick's sofa, and afterward moved into the rodent-infested Hotel Albert. After nine months in New York, Richman decided he'd had enough. Back home, Richman swiftly organized a band with childhood friend John Felice (guitar), David Robinson (drums, later of The Cars), and Rolfe Anderson (bass). The Modern Lovers played their first date in September 1970, barely a month after Richman's return.

Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers:

Boston-based band that existed from 1976 to 1988. For the initial incarnation with different line-up (1970–1974) of this band, see The Modern Lovers.

Wonderful share! I never would have thought of Lydia Lunch on hearing "Lydia", but I will always think of her from now on, thanks to you. Do you happen to have Jonathan's other Beserkley albums from 1976 and 1977?

Thanks Jonder,
I have seen one other of those LP's in the wild but the dang clerk was shuffling things around and it ended up losing it in the store (!!) so it didn't go home with me. I will seek out the others you mention as I miss seeing him all the time at First Ave. I think they made his 'Roadrunner' the state song of Massachusetts by now.
