Breaking the ice with this post since it is the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop this year, I will do one more post later with all my local rap CD's including a 20 minute radio taped rap battle with Atmosphere. These guys I remember I first heard in a picnic park between Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis during ninth grade while I was hanging out with punks who played it on a boom box while the week before they were playing The Faith album with their hit 'Aware' boomin' out! Our junior high was nearby the lakes and the Mpls. punk school nearby--they came en masse to our school one day to fight us 'cake eaters' (supposedly rich suburb I lived in who won the state hockey tourneys every year) but we all bonded since they recognized some of us from the very first punk shows occurring in town when it started: Dead Kennedys at the MN Armory on University on the East Bank and D.O.A. on the West Bank of the Ole Mississippi but also small shows at at church nearby with 7 Seconds. Thus when I found the 12 EP at Goodwill recently with the CD, I had to get their first album which I bought and memorized most of the lyrics....was cool hearing it last weekend after all that time as lyrics came easy.
