The Nuge's loudmouth persona, love of bloodsports & extreme right wing views have utterly tarnished his musical legacy at this point, but back in the day he made some seriously kick-ass music & could make that Gibson Byrdland wail like no-one else. Funny you mentioned the 'punk' vibe of Wango Tango, as Nugent's no-drinking no-drugging stance was very influential on that scene via two huge Nugent fans called Henry Rollins & Ian MacKaye who adopted that lifestyle themselves & credit Nugent as the initial inspiration for what later became 'Straight Edge'.
