Mankey produced three of my favorite records from the 80s, the Three O'Clock's first Ep and album ("Baroque Hoedown" and "Sixteen Tambourines") and Concrete Blonde's self-titled album. I had no idea that he'd recorded stuff on his own -- I'm interested to hear this!

Back in the 80s I had some tracks that needed mixing and a friend of mine gave me Earl's contact. Drove up to his house in Thousand Oaks from LA, and we spent a couple of days in his home studio. He was a very nice guy and a lot of fun to work with. I had an idea to put a telephone ring on a song, and he hooked up his phone to a mic, went to a neighbor's house and rang his phone so we could get the sound we wanted. Also, his wife use to serve us peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It was the first time I worked with someone who had an anything goes attitude. I learned a lot.
