they were the subject of, i believe, either an ABC or NBC 'television documentary about a struggling band going from the clubs to recording an album for a major label'.....i can barely remember it, and it might even be out there on a boot DVD somewhere...otw, its kind of skinny tie early 80s commercial pop....not bad, but not great either!!!!

Jim is right -- these guys were the subject of a documentary on ABC about a new band getting signed and making their first album. I saw it, and I was mesmerized by the band right from the beginning. Fell in love with the song "Hold My Hand," and to this day, it's still one of my favorite songs ever.
Their keyboardist Thomas Newman went on to become a well-known studio musician -- he's scored literally dozens of huge films since the 80s. He's been nominated for several Oscars for his score work. Michael Hurt is also doing film scores under his real name, Michael Convertino. Don't know what happened to the other guys in the band, though.
I have to disagree with Jim about one thing, though. This album is AMAZING! It's the epitome of 80s pop/new wave, there's a lot of energy, the songs are catchy and memorable, and it's just FUN to listen to. It's still one of my favorite albums ever, and always will be!
Funny note: I remember in the documentary, their guitarist, Tony Kowalski, was all pissed off that they didn't name the band "Trees of Mystery." I'm sure glad they didn't!

I remember the special. One of Neil Bogart's signings to Casablanca. Had this on cassette way back when. Haven't heard it in thirty years but I seem to remember some great songs on it. Thanks for finding it.
