Country Dick Montana would be better-remembered today were he not constantly confused with Handsome Dick Manitoba. (I hafta believe Country was paying homage to Handsome, but of course I could have it ass-backwards. And it wouldn't be the first time, either....)
Wasn't the biggest Beat Farmers fan, but then to me the 1980s was the Dead Zone of rock'n'roll, regardless of subcategory; pretty much the most hopeful points of light in that grim skyline were the off-beat, acquired-taste, hey, you categorize 'em - I can't bands like the BFs, so.....respect earned, and due.

I saw them so many times, they knew who I was. Once, when I moved, Dick walked over to me and said "what are you doing here, you're not Iowa people, you're Chicago people".
I got all my CDs and vinyl signed about a month before Dick died. Never got a chance to get Buddy to sign the first two, but we exchanged some email here and there. I'm FB friends with Joey.
I miss this band.
