MOON MARTIN - Escape From Domination LP 78 w Shots From A Cold Nightmare LP 78 w Street Fever LP 80 w Mystery Ticket LP 82

REPOST Request:  From the country-rock band Southwind.  Per the comment "he had that uncanny knack of writing songs so simple yet classically-contoured you'd swear they were covers of forgotten gems from the 50s".    https://www28.zippyshare.com/v/aQw75EON/file.html

Good old Moon Martin. I was a member of his fan club back in the day. I think he did all right in the new wave scene. I remember hearing "Rolene" (from his second album) on the radio a few times. Mink DeVille covered "Cadillac Walk" from this LP.

Moon's label positioned him (like they did John Hiatt and Graham Parker) as an angry young nerd in the mold of Elvis Costello. There was a creepy edge to some of his songs, but ultimately he was a fan of Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, and his roots were in the Southern California country-rock sound of his first band (Southwind), and the harmonies of the Everlys and the Beatles.

According to the website secondhandsongs, "Bad Case Of Loving You" has been covered by 21 different artists. The line "no pill's gonna cure my ill" was quoted in a Queens Of The Stone Age song, too.

Moon Martin had that uncanny knack of writing songs so simple yet classically-contoured you'd swear they were covers of forgotten gems from the 50s ("Cadillac Walk", "Bad Case" on this one; but his followup lps were even better - Elvis covering "No Chance" and "Paid the Price" with the Sun house band is as good a reason as any why time travel should exist)

I LOVES me some Moon! This album was constantly on my turntable when I was in high school, along with "Escape From Domination." He really should have been a huge star -- as far as I'm concerned, he's one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

My high school boyfriend looked just like him. I kid you not. Right down to the geeky glasses and the pudding bowl haircut.

I've been on your site for about 2 and half hours filling in holes in my collection (lost in moves, stolen by ex's, etc). YOU GUYS ARE FRIGGIN' HEROES. If you're ever in Brooklyn, I will buy you the 12 pack of your choice.

thanks! and for you trivia buffs, he got the nickname 'Moon" because apparently many of his songs mentioned the moon in them, and his bandmates started calling him "Moon"!!!!
