I pulled out this windfall find one day at Goodwill to rip this week because I just stream captured a VHS to MP4 the Motown 25th Anniversary special where they talk about Motown going into the Country market on their offshoot label Hitsville (first two albums on this then he goes to Warner with better sound).  They mention T.G. was the first artist they signed and right away he had a hit song with I believe was 'Fake Love' from the Country album comp. in the above post but not here, I think he also sang 'Devil In the Bottle' so maybe that was the hit.  I can post if it's not on Youtube.
