For me the PC effect started when my band who played numerous NYC gigs and some at the old ABC No-Rio was told even after playing ABC more than once ( i think 3 times) that in order to play further gigs at ABC you needed to submit a lyric sheet with your music and any lyrics they found offending meant NO GIG.
This was around 1986 or so.I was not to happy to see Punk rockers censoring stuff. We never played there again and never wanted to.We do not need censorship.
P.C.=Piece of Crap....here in l.a., you had to watch what you say at the shows or the p.c. will school you with there rules....a la mierda con tus ideales, no todos somos iguales!!!......lalo
Its' like my favourite comedian Steve Hughes said: What's wrong with being offended? Since when did sticks and stones make break my bones stop being relevant?
IMO: Always depends on context as far as I'm concerned. There's a difference between challenging your audience and behaving like an asshole, out there to upset people.
I always try my best to treat people in ways that make them feel respected and powerful.
I think PC gets used nowadays as a derogatory term towards this kind of behavior, like I'm trying to ruin someone's good time by using language that makes others feel respected. I don't get it...
I also think Political Correctness is an often well-meaning but often misguided attempt by people to be fair and equal to others.
Problem is that it often leads to ludicrous things like not being allowed to sing Baa Black Sheep or not putting up Christmas decorations because it may upset minorities. Its' usually local politicans/councils who cause trouble and ultimately breed resentment between different groups. The media causes a lot of problems too.

This one for you ClassicMusic20. I know you want trendy Yacht Rock for your radio but calling soft Christian rock by that genre just to get me to buy something won't work and never putting a penny of your own money for anything while using pressure buy to make me buy the last one on Discogs is lame for lame music my Goodwill steals are Sanctified.as R.L. Burnside used to say live.

PC is for loosers. I prefer my Mac...
:-P

I have a Mac. I hate PCs.
But seriously, folks... PC is a relative term, meaning different things to different people.
Because I am anti-racist, I have been accused by some of being a "PC fascist."
But because I like guns, I have been accused of being a "redneck."
You know how that old song goes, "You can't please everyone so you gotta please yourself."
Putting too much value on the term PC is a waste of time. As Jerry Springer says, "Be good to yourself... and each other."
Police CUNTstable!
