Now imagine today put to this scenario...

Wasn't this George Lucas' first film? Anyway, a classic political 'future' film ala 1894 ect. Recomended for sure.

Yep,your right on John.
Why was this so forgotten?
Such a classic...

Neither rare nor forgotten...

...nor so good. Of the 700+ Sf films I own, this one ranks way down at the bottom. Lucas is really a mediocre story teller; it is only when he has others working with him on screenplays or directing for him that things really shine for him. The second and third Wars films rose above the first film because he let someone else direct, and the Indy films delivered due to talent of Spielberg.

THX-1138 was his 12th film, BTW. He's only directed 19 films in the last 44 years. He's written 77, but the bulk of that has just been variations of the Star Wars universe and Indy-related stuff.

What are really his best films?

American Graffiti, and Willow (writer). If he had not done Star Wars, even those may have been forgotten. He is one lucky one-trick pony.

IRT JohnThe Punk:

That's "1984", not 1894.

Well I'm no connoisseur but I still love this one.
700 Sci Fi flicks...wow,that's quite a collection.My favorite genre.

Well, I'm glad you enjoy it. After all, when you boil it down that's what matters most - are YOU entertained by it. My opinion shouldn't affect yours as all it is is opinion.

I already get enough flack for preferring Trek to Wars, but that's because I'm a fan of harder SF. I also don't mind ripping apart the genre (in its film form), hence my love of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Just found the site, pretty entertaining especially when it comes to the RAC posts. It has also provided me with the most entertaining quotes so far my favorite is from your B day post in which someone commented "Unhappy Birthday you cunt" great site keep the trolls coming
