Hey...Have you ever got the "Your music sucks worse than hell" routine by your mate?
I'm gettin it in a big way...
Personally,it doesn't bother me much but what do you think?

Fuck Em! that's what I think, life's to short to worry about which bands suck and which bands don't!

i don't socialise with people who listen to "my type of music", but not by choice, therefore i get this routine a lot, but i don't force my music onto my friends, much.

LOL...Thanks Nuzz/Slobo.
I guess I should have been a bit clearer.By "Mate",I wasn't trying to sound English lol.I ment Wife.
My wife gives me a major hard time about my music.Punk music.
I can't help but force her to listen sometimes because she's in the house :)
I don't know how to be quiet or listen quietly.

Do your girlfriends/wifes like the same music or do they hate your music like my wife does?

My wife similarly despises my musical taste although she admits to liking the Stranglers way back in 77-78 but that's as punk as she gets! It works both ways I similarly can't stand Coldplay, Amy Crackhouse, Duffy and all the other shit she listens to. Headphones are the answer that way I can ignore her aswell! :) DAN

I look at it this way. When you guys first met she knew what type of music you liked. That was her chance to hit they highway. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one! I still listen to my music no matter what. That is my get away from everyone.

the missus was my escort for many years at all sorts of punk etc shows. these days, she gravitates more to the top 40 with my teenage daughter.
she still likes most of the old school stuff...
but absolutely hates some stuff I dig like:
george thorogood and weezer.

yeah- i know- so do you!

HI Mark, think about it: my wife loves jazz, new age and a ot of shit that I hate (some jazz is ok, but brazilian folk music and new age is a real toruture). But what can I do? I married her not for the musical taste, but for any chemical reasons, etc! So, I hear a lot of shit, but I get any "compensations"! Bleargh!
In time: do you have No Alternative's "Johnny Got His Gun?" A great record....

My wife only likes The Ramones.

Fortunately, my wife and I have a little overlap. She likes the Ramones, Nirvana, Breeders, Devo, other 80's alternative stuff like Pretenders, Depeche Mode, etc., but she also likes the Dead, James Taylor, Bacon Brothers, Alanis Morissette, et.al.

She has actually been to a few shows with me: Clash of the Titans Tour (Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax/Alice In Chains), Napalm Death, the first Lollapalooza, Ramones, Faith No More. In return, I drove her and her buddies to 3 different Dead shows - however, I only had to sit through one show.

i'm glad my sife loves punk rock as much as i do

Nah, my girlfriend is not a fan of my music at all. She's into R&B (the newer stuff like Usher & Beyonce, not the 50's/60's stuff), though she was a bit of a goth years ago (Mission, Siouxsie, Sisters Of Mercy, etc). When we were in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago for our holiday she came to a punk gig with me, but she just sat at the back holding my records & drinking double vodkas!!!
Wireless headphones save our relationship. Hee hee!

Yeah. Mark, Don't wanna be a Johnny-come-lately, but remember: You, me, and pretty much everybody that still cares about 'music' is obviously very passionate about it. I mean, that's a pretty rare thing, if you weren't shown that, learned that, needed that, whatever...Point being, between all us regulars and alike there's a million miles, over a thousand collective years of that passion all compressed into this site space, etc...How can one person (even if you love them) ever live up to that force? Sucks, yeah but that's the way it is. I think all the people that do this kinda sharing is a pretty special thing indeed. we all 'fill' a niche.
> :)>Rg
Double vodkas couldn't hurt either! lol

Lucky for me that my wife listens to some or alot of the stuff that I listten to. She listens to more rockabilly or psycho than I. Still, I can listen to just about anything with around excluding RAC stuff. Hey, if you have SNFU's Victims Of The Womanizer ep could you post it. I cannot find the damn thing anywhere!!!!!! Your site is as cool as always....Keep it up!!!!!!

Glad to see I'm not alone lol.
Yea,headphones...Shit I hate headphones. When I scream along to the songs I look like a complete idiot.

She tells me my music makes her angry.Moody.I tell her that's how I get out my aggression...she should try it lol.
I think she's become less tolerant over the years...or maybe she's just getting older.I'm getting older too but for some reason I don't "act" any older.

Yea,I've taken her to many a concert for her.Stupid pop country acts like Dwight Yoakam,Pam Tillis,John Anderson,Gary Allen.
I took her to 1 punk concert. The Buzzcocks (years ago). She liked it alright but still complained afterward lol.
She likes 70's classic stuff and Country.

I don't expect her to love the same things, just maybe respect my love of it.If the music is too loud, maybe approch me in a different manner than yelling and criticizing me.

Ranting :)
Mid life crisis?Ha...Maybe.
My stupid birthday is this month.Got me thinking too much.

My wife is cool about the musical attrocities here. She gave up on who was in DK and who was in Husker Du (Jello = Husker Du...) but she loves King Crimson and likes the latter Du.

What about your 'stache, Mark? And is there a problem with the html?

Sorry DD,I didn't get back to you.Been too busy with home activities and keeping an eye on all these storms.

I gave up on the HTML idea. Some things are best left alone lol.

The moustache is still on my face.
It grew fast.No hahaha I'm not going for the handlebars.
I've had that before and waxing the ends is nasty.
We'll see how long it lasts. It's already starting to bother me.
Now you know what bald guys do for kicks to change up their look.

I am newly dating and a new downloaded Fang outtake record was in the car player and even I didn't want to hear the shouting since they didn't sound like the cleanly produced CD I have so I threw in a soundtrack "Day the Earth Stood Still" and being from Russia and artistic, she clearly like the ecclectic phasor sounds and stuff. I don't know if she's checked out my viacomclosedmedown youtube site yet but I think the tact here is to slowly introduce her to some music. Now yesterday I played a NOTA hardcore kick ass disc and even though one of the 2 peop's in the car likes NAS, Az (new RB stuff like lil'Wayne which I have been learning from him and like) and was a philly rapper..both of them (the other guy was a dude from Laos more mainstreams stuff) didn't say nothin' but I could tell that there heads were "down on the PAVEMENT!!!!" listening and not complaining godddammit! Trainin' this week in CAli in my hotel and still downloadin' THanx

I told you before that once in a while my passion for music causes trouble with my girlfriend!

but it´s not so much cause of what music I play or the volume that I play it - it´s cause I got an extra room were I´ve my records and my stereo and that room´s MY cave and she has no say in that matter and that point is NOT up for discussion which means that washed clothes will be dried in the living and not inside my cave, or that the vacuum cleaner will remain in the kitchen and not inside my cave no matter if there is space in my cave or not!

I have an office/room/cave of my own also.Wish I could keep everyone out,but just because it's mine they all want in lol.
It's too small for my sterio. The speakers are 4 foot tall.
My collection of music is in the main part of the house under a 14 foot bar.No liquor in the bar...only music :)

I guess I should get a smaller system, but I find it hard to downsize and sacrifice bass.

At least I have my truck. No one bitches there.

I tend to play less fast punk bands around at home because of my partner. So at home I play stuff like the Wipers or Dead Moon or just some good old school dub or something like Black Sabbath. But she's cool and has great taste in music, but she don't like when it comes to fast loud in your face brutal aggressive stuff...I am thinking of getting a car so I can listen to "my" music outside of listening on an ipod...hah

Nish said...

LOL A car is an expensive sterio.

Most of what I play in the house isn't too brutal.I really don't like too H/C of stuff.I like melody. But still she bitches lol.
Oh it's ok when I play her music loud...just not mine.

Ahh...Everyone in my family likes different music.
My son being the worst in my book.
He likes that boom boom bass crap.
His car sounds like a rolling explosion of ghetto rap.Nice huh?
How did an old punk end up with a country loving woman and a rapper of a son.
My daughter is too young still to have her own taste...Jeez wonder what the heck that will be :)

Oh well.I'll continue to bother them with my tunes. If I turn it up louder I won't hear them whine.

I get that all the time, "That's too fast" or "Can you even understand the lyrics? (Early Napalm Death stuff)." So, I kind of immune already to these 'complaints" from friends and the wife. I only listen to melodic/old school punk around the house. The wife's already into the Ramones and some Bouncing Souls stuff. I steer-clear from metal in the house except Sabbath. Plus, the kids respond to a lot of punk and mid-tempo post punk & indie music, especially the eldest (he's 1 1/2 yrs old). Since I exposed him early to his old man's music - from Septic Death to Carcass to the Clash.
But if you just want to annoy people, ENT is the best. Accept no substitutes! I still do this whenever the neighbors are being too loud. hehe

Don`t worry mark, my wife hates my music and my daughter is at the monent into kids music lol. Hope she will get a good music taste in the future.
