The recognition of the Armenian genocide is a very touchy subject here in Europe...the Turkish government (and a large part of the population ???) obviously does not recognize it as a genocide and does not like other countries raising the issue...if I remember correctly, the town of Lyon in France built a monument to the memory of the Armenians slaughtered in the genocide, the local Turkish community and the Turkish governement strongly protested against it and the monument was desecrated...The issue is even more touchy now that Turkey wants to join the European Union...The Turkish governement is willing to compromise on many things but not on that...
