H A P P Y B E L A T E D 8 0 t h B I R T H D A Y, B O B D Y L A N !!!! (This Is Your Life)

 I first heard Bob Dylan from a brothers tape of the second Greatest Hits release and would play the 'All Along The Watchtower' and 'Stuck Inside of Mobile.." tunes the most.  I liked as much as the Hendrix version I had also borrowed on cassette in grade school and eventually, after hearing the latter as such a long song on AOR Radio, I had to learn ALL the lyrics by heart for it by borrowing one of my older brothers' book of Dylan song lyrics.  I really loved those two songs.  Eventually, he sold out our stadium with multiple shows with the Grateful Dead in high school--effectively uniting all the jocks and preppies together in support throughout MN.  Over the last year, I have been finding many CD's at the Goodwill Bargain Barn store (overstock before it goes overseas) during lunchbreak and it really turned out well...you can see them above.  I also added three videos previously posted here a DU blog during his 'Rebel's and Infidels' album (need to hear that one!) with a couple members of the punk band the PLUGZ on David Letterman.  Also added some download files and four by hour long radio documentaries that I had collected along with Dylan and the Dead.  As a special add-on, I have stream captured to MP4 my favorite movie appearance of Bob albeit short in 'Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid'--that is the sheepish Bob I have nicely tucked into memory having never seen him live.  Also, by chance, late last night I found that I had also ripped to MP4 a more extensive Bob appearance in 'Masked And Anonymous'.  To really put things over the edge peruse below for more trivia related posts for this 80th Birthday Celebration.  BTW, can anyone correct a sound/video shift that occurred during my stream capturing of Bob Dylan's 30th Birthday Celebration with many celebrities from MTV singin' Bob songs (except Sinead O'Connor you can only see/her practice as she got booed during those years but hey perhaps a TRUE tribute to when Bob wouldn't play the Ed Sullivan show due to their censorship--a TRUE punk rocker!!!).  Also looking for software that can rotate a video 90 degrees as an old camera did that to me during a Wreckless Eric show.  Enjoy!

DYLAN HICKS - GOVERNOR OF FUN CD 96

 Back when this came out I remember I had a 'Jesse Ventura' bumper sticker on my car but for Bob Dylan's On-Going 80th Birthday Celebration, I will post this same namesake artist from the same MN state as Bob who truly was the 'Governor of Fun' as multiple tracks from this CD were on the Radio K (at Bob's first University U of MN) weekly Friday Top 7 playlist for many, many weeks and now he has finally a new CD coming out today on Bandcamp (https://dylan-hicks.bandcamp.com/album/accidental-birds?fbclid=IwAR0fPOcC9dMbgBu_tiGBbJcxSY2gWLE0A2u2BZs9BrN0clf81_py2syK1-0) with special bonus items today I noticed.  I played the hell out of this CD for many years with relevant songs like today at Goodwill trying to get around the busy shoppers, "You Make A Much Better Door, Than A Window' was probably the longest on the top 7 (see sidebar for link).

Found these both at Goodwill just in time (a day late) to post for Bob Dylan's 80th Birthday CELEBRATION yesterday.  The compilation, I had never heard before but my buddy Fred had put some songs on a cassette for me back then and once I heard the Lyle Lovett cover of 'Friend Of The Devil' it came right back to me such an awesome song as well as the Ripple cover by Jane's Addiction or Estimated Prophet by Burning Spear all bonus tunes on a tape.  Other great artists on it are:  Los Lobos, Bruce Hornsby And The Range, The Harsh Mellows, Elvis Costello, Suzanne Vega, Dwight Yoakam, Warren Zevon with David Lindley, Indigo Girls, Cowboy Junkies, Midnight Oil and Dr. John.

J.J. Cale - The Very Best Of (cassette) w Travel-Log LP 84

 Here is a Tulsa, OK troubadour like Bob above, however, that not as many know about but should.  As Eric Clapton called him in the fascinating WIKIPEDIA write-up, "one of the most important artists in the history of rock".  He was the one who wrote 'After Midnight' and 'Cocaine' and they both got a Grammy for their joint release, "The Road To Escondido".  He also wrote 'Call Me The Breeze' that Lynyrd Skynyrd make famous.  The tape has a funky VHS style case so someone made it for a record show and Antonio at Rocketstar Records has a  bunch more of them and you will hear the high quality of the tape recording that I ripped.  The album is awesome and starts with another hit 'Shanghaid".
