COLOSSEUM II - Electric Savage LP 76 w Wardance LP 77 w SKID ROW - 34 Hours LP 71

Some bands with Gary Moore featured in them.  The Colosseum II pictures are in the Skid Row file to fit.  When this came out around the time of Al Dimeola's classic similar sounding to some tunes here called "Race With Devil On Spanish Highway" that I used to play a lot of times in my room when I borrowed one of my older brothers vinyl's for it.  Yes, far less of a sound like the band Traffic that the earlier Colloseum below had in spades.

Skid Row:

COLOSSEUM - Those Who Are About To Die Salute You LP 68 UK and German Versions w COLOSSEUM - The Grass Is Greener LP 69 w Daughter Of Time LP 70

This is the first incarnation of Colosseum before Gary Moore joined.

12 RODS - gay? EP 96

Since I just posted an old local favorite I thought I would go back to another favorite era in music of the late 90's to mid-oughts (they had two more CD's that I couldn't find) during the Radio K (go to for a weekly top 7) heyday.  I just found this old promo CD I had gotten at a show that I always liked as I think it reflects the best aspects of Ozzy Ozbourne in the vocals and Ryan Olcott has gone on to bigger and better things recently like a new solo CD, Mystery Palace, Foodteam and the band Solid Gold.  Radio K is broadcast from the U of MN--of which I am an alumni from their College of Science and Engineering--recent science updates from them:  new CO2 plasma energy method from Geothermal wells for abundant money making energy source, atomic layer lithography manufacturing method breakthrough at their new Physics and Nanotechnology building using Scotch Tape to get 1 nanometer separation for new smaller light and electric circuits (at hundreds or even thousandths of the light wavelength, sending light through this circuit magnifies it 600 million times!), new ultrasound noninvasive method to clear up artery blockages, a new cancer cure for targeting cells without chemo, acquired a new fastest-in-the-world electron microscope to capture in a millionth of a billionth of a second (femtosecond) and the list goes on and on in my quarterly Alumni newsletter.  Go GOPHERS!!!
Here is Ryan's latest CD:

Widgets 86 Empty Hearts LP

REPOST NEW GUEST RIP:  Thanks to Jeff Crane for sending in a new rip (I cut out the dead space and seperated out the 'hidden' song for him) of what we both agree is a classic.  They used to play weekly at our college bar and the 'Widgets' gals would always be up front leading the dance floor in a frenzy!  Aaron the singer was from Urban Guerrillas and went on after this band to the Delilahs.  He was from the local MN suburbs like we were and he had a knack for keen song topics and phrasing like "existential neurosis".

REPOST Request:  Punk rock from Rugby, Warwicks, UK. This ep was released in 1990 on Glut Records.
Thanks To Brian Guy for this one.

Danny Johnson And The Bandits - st EP 82

SHARKS - First Water LP 73 w Jab It In Yore Eye LP 74

REPOST Request:  Yes, James Fitzpatrick this IS the band with Chris Spedding in it.  Nice choice!  Reminds me for the current theme that I have yet another Chris Spedding record to add to a repost soon.

3-D - No Glasses Needed LP 85

REPOST Request:  Now this is the 3-D band that had the underground hit "Livin' In The Real World" that used to play on our AOR hit radio station at our bowling alley video arcade back in the eighties.  A classic!
Link is Restored:

REPOST Request:  Thanks to Wildevilman for originally posting this classic.

BAD DRESS SENSE - Goodbye...It Was Fun EP 87

Mink DeVille - st LP 77 w Return To Magenta LP 78 w Le Chat Bleu LP 80 w Coup De Grace LP 81 w Where Angels Fear To Tread LP 83 w Sportin' Life LP 85 w Willy DeVille - Miracle LP 87

Earlier stuff has a good punky sound out of the fifties but "never self consciously retro".  Covers Moon Martin's tune "Rolene" as the Brains did also.  Mark Knopfler produces the Miracle LP and Willy dedicates it to Mark and his wife Lourdes for getting him out of "Dire Straits".

Charlie Ainley - Bang Your Door LP 78 w Too Much Is Not Enough LP 78

Billy Rankin - Growin' Up Too Fast LP 84

MICKEY THOMAS - Alive Alone LP 81

Bernie Taupin - He Who Rides The Tiger LP 80

Elton John sings on a track as well as Hamish Stuart from AWB!

Tommy Bolin - Teaser LP 75

Finally after all these weeks I fixed my quality problem.  It seems the crossfader lever was the wrong way which lowered the signal causing raspy treble and I needlessly compensated with boost which caused booming bass sounds.  I do apologize and it's mostly not noticeable except in my new car stereo but I have kept most of the good records so if I get a repost request and I have it I will re-rip.  So in the coming weeks, years you are in for a real treat of sound now that it sounds better...just notice this weeks selections and just in time for the mini theme of male solo ending in "y" or "ie"--you know, the ones people get affectionate for with those names so fitting that the problem was fixed.  R.I.P. Tommy Bolin here, way before his time.

REPOST Request:  Thanks to our fearless leader here at the blog, Mark Underground.

VA - Sudden Death

REPOST Request:  This one got a lot of listens by me back in the day but I have no idea where the 11 bonus tunes came from included here on another post within as I only remember the 28 from the LP rip.

MOJO NIXON AND SKID ROPER - Frenzy LP 86 w BO-DAY-SHUS!!! LP 87 w Root Hog Or Die LP 89

Well I couldn't rightly post a shitload of Beat Farmers stuff and not also post their number one opener band for over 200 shows!  A nice intro on the 1986 record by the late great Country Dick Montana is a classic piece of writing.  I've added a few bonus live tunes and one with Jello Biafra but missing two earlier slabs.

ROBYN HITCHCOCK - Black Snake Diamond Role w I Often Dream Of Trains w Jewels For Sophia

Part 2 of 2:

Willie Murphy - Piano Hits LP 85
