Charlotte Cornwell, Julie Covington, Rula Lenska - Rock Follies LP 76

IT'S ONLY ROCK & ROLL:  Good thing I reposting some of this series as I found another one I had labelled as a band like last week that should be a compilation or vica versa.  Features the Roxy Music Sax player per the comment.  Couldn't find anything about this on discogs so I looked up the members:  Real Name:  Julie Covington

Algy Lord Gray - Bertie CD 72 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Per Discogs:  Real Name:  Alan Gray

Profile:  In the early seventies Algy and pals decided to musically "get it together in the country" and went to Wales where they stumbled upon the gorgeous abandoned mansion Plas Llecha.

They moved in and began recording, living in primitive but beautiful surroundings - and remained in Wales forever. Bertie was hand made each with unique covers, and a copy was sent to a baffled John Peel who wrote back to the band and later gave them a live Peel Session slot. Bertie is a specific form of naturally eccentric brilliance, drawing on an anarchic british tradition that encompasses James Joyce, The Goons, Hawkwind and Monty Python.

Undercurrents of genius later transformed into actual genius with their next band The Great Crash. From 1971 - 1974 they developed a beautiful melodic Art Rock and recorded 30 tracks in the mansion, Piano led and sometimes reminiscent of Elton Johns best early compositions, with a dash of 10cc, and a Deja Vu vibe.

The insular circumstances of their lifestyle and spacious digs seem to have allowed their musical spirits to flourish. An exec at Parlophone got wind of their music and signed them up, but, as with their Peel session, they just couldnt work in the sterile studio conditions, and the sessions ended in disaster as the band fled back to their beloved Welsh Idyll.

Unbeknownst to themselves and the world at large, the Great Crash sessions from Plas Llecha, are pure gold dust, and represent rhe great Lost Classic of British Rock. A missing piece in the tapestry of British music. Their 1972-1973 unissued double LP ' Deadfire Echoes' is scheduled for a Jan 2022 release on Seelie Court.

Plas Llecha became an internationally famous Recording Studio where Oasis and The Verve recorded their major albums,

Eyes Of Blue - The Crossroads Of Time CD 68 - cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Starting a new posting series here as I've been privy to some hot posting activity at one of my new meta vinyl groups.  I will put the "-cc" at the end of the WinRAR filename as well as above in the title so I know.  I'm starting this now as a big source for this material the 'Rockasteria' blogspot has many of the links but they are expiring fast like for this file, I had to go to Youtube and download the songs one by one via mp3convert.org.  I use their 320 kb/sec MP3 highest sample rate link and the youtube high setting is 256 kb/sec (I avoid the 128 kb/sec low quality youtube post) and it sounds great to my ears.  Per Discogs:  The Eyes Of Blue evolved during the mid-sixties from covers and R&B band The Mustangs, based in Neath, Wales, UK.

The early line-up consisted of Wyndham Rees (Vocals), Ray Williams (Guitar), Ritchie Francis (Bass), Melvyn Davies (Guitar) and David Thomas (Drums). Thomas had replaced Byron Phillips in October 1964 a month before the change of name, and before too long Melvyn Davies also decided to leave, reducing the Eyes to a four-piece. Starting out as a soul-based R&B band the Eyes quickly established a strong reputation in the South Wales music scene. In Early in 1966 drummer Thomas was off and away, and John Weathers was drafted in as a temporary replacement. From another Neath based band - the Smokestacks - came keyboard player Phil Ryan, and vocalist Gary Pickford-Hopkins.

L. Glas, short for Lygaid Glas, Eyes of Blue in Welsh, was used as writing credits on Apache '69.

mclusky - the difference between me and you is that i'm not on fire CD 04

Continue to pull out choice CD's from my old Radio K daze and this one I truly enjoyed with a couple hit songs making the weekly top 7 at 7 with, "She Will Only Bring You Happiness" and "Without MSG I Am Nothing".  Per Discogs:  Post hardcore band, formed in 1996 in Cardiff, Wales. Disbanded January 7th, 2005.

Members: Andy Falkous (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Chapple (bass, vocals), Matthew Harding (drums 1996-2003) ), Jack Egglestone (drums 2003 onwards).

Chapple went on to form Shooting At Unarmed Men; Falkous and Egglestone formed Future Of The Left and have since performed again as mclusky* initially for benefit shows in 2014, more gigs in 2015 and a full tour in 2019/20 with Damien Sayell on bass.

I’ve a long history of collection’ Tom--my favorite type of singer (loud, boisterous, over-the-top) and as a result had very few gaps...albeit a couple were wrong vinyl/CD in the cases/jackets but I was happy with the results!  Odd that the first album was missing the song "Some Other Guy" which gave me an ironic chuckle, but by the time song labeling came along at work, I had already ditched two full bags of records with it via my pedal bike ride across the street to Goodwill and I was wayyy too excited doing that as it seems that is THEE big thrill for me these days--dumping vinyl.  His cover tunes are quite cool like ZZ Top's 'I Thank You" which gave me a double take or Black Crowes/Rustix tune....just kidding Otis Redding's tune 'Hard To Handle' as he was respecting the scene at the time choosing  hip songs like devoting most of a live album to the hottest group going at the time none other than the “Now And Then” AI group ragin’ right now with heart-warming tune which is also a great album by Stiff Little Fingers I was formed with as your host here at DU!

Shirley Bassey - Shirley Bassey Is Really Something LP [NZ] w Capricorn LP 72 w Homemade 24 Song Compilation CD from Goodwill [unlabeled]

REPOST and ADD ON:  I love Shirley Bassey and had the first post tore up album since my first house basement flooded to destroy the cover but inside made it very well.  I guess it is from New Zealand but no idea when it came out.  Fast forward to today's post and I am adding the homemade CD with unlabeled songs I haven't had time to go through so post them if you know in comments but the real treasure is her Capricorn album with the title track having that funky bass playing that I love.
