GLENN GOULD - THE MOZART PIANO SONATAS, VOL. 3 LP 72
For this post for the weekly classical theme, I inserted some piano-playing two sides piano cheat sheet note cards that had fallen from some other Goodwill vinyl so I tucked them in here. Per Discogs: Real Name: Glenn Herbert Gould (né Gold)
Profile: Born: Glenn Herbert Gold, 25 September 1932 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada: Died: 4 October 1982 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (aged 50)
Glenn Gould was a Canadian pianist, known especially for his recordings of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his eccentric piano technique and personality.
He recorded most of Bach's keyboard works, all of Mozart's sonatas, all five of Beethoven's piano concertos and 23 of the 32 piano sonatas, the complete piano works and Lieder of Arnold Schoenberg, works by Sibelius, Bizet, Richard Strauss and Paul Hindemith.
Gould was also a composer, writer, lecturer, and producer of radio documentaries and television programs.
Gould assumed the parts of fictitious characters such as: "dean of British conductors", Sir Nigel Twitt-Thornwaite; a German critic, Dr. Herbert von Hochmeister; and a New York cab driver, Theodore Slutz of Brooklyn Heights. Other alter egos were Dr. Karlheinz Klopweisser, a German composer and critic; Sir Humphrey Price-Davies, a "BBC-type pedagogue"; Duncan Haig-Guinness, a Canadian radio producer; and two psychiatrists, S.F. Lemming, M.D., and Wolfgang von Krankmeister. He even published certain articles under the name "Herbert von Hochmeister". Some of these characters were used on Glenn Gould - The Glenn Gould Silver Jubilee Album.

TIMBERCREEK - HELLBOUND HIGHWAY LP 75
A huge thanks to Josef(Austria) for suggesting this album along with a missing New Riders of The Purple Sage album "Gypsy Cowboy" he said should have paved the way for this band's success instead of obscurity all below this post) as it has a great Grateful Dead type groove going for it the whole album. I thus got into the spirit and bumped up the Collector's Choice band 'Mountain Bus' this week along with some other similar music excursions for the series all right below that happened to 'fit in'. Enjoy!!!!

Esthero - Breath From Another CD 98
Getting some requests for old triphop so here's one with our old rap scene boss Slug from Atmosphere chiming in on the hit song opener with Meesah called Breath From Another which was what got me to buy it. Here is the skinny on this cool band: Esthero (/ɛsˈtɛroʊ/ es-TERR-oh; born Jenny-Bea Englishman on December 23, 1978) is a Canadian singer-songwriter who lives in Los Angeles, California. The name Esthero refers both to the singer and formerly to the two-person team of herself and producer Doc McKinney. Esthero is a portmanteau of "Esther the hero"; she claims to have gotten the name by combining the name of the heroine (Esther) and last line ("If I am to be the hero, then I cannot fly from darkness") of the film from Sylvia Plath's only novel, The Bell Jar (1963).
Esthero's sound characteristically features her voice over a mix of mellow bass lines, jazzy trumpets, classical guitar and hip-hop. She is sometimes compared to artists Björk, Portishead, Billie Holiday, and Sade. She has co-produced the majority of the material she performed. Later female artists who count Esthero among their influences include Res, Fergie and fellow Canadian Nelly Furtado.

Jackal - Awake CD 73 -cc
COLLECTOR'S CHOICE: Going out of alphabetical order this week to grab a couple selections for this series with a Halloween bent. Per Discogs: Jackal was formed in 1969 by the Kellesis brothers (Chris on keyboards and Jack on bass) with high school friend Charlie Shannon on vocals. They filled out the ranks with several other members in their infancy while playing the B circuit around Toronto. They wrote some material while developing a progressive, psychedelic hard rock sound, and were seen by Art Snider one night in a bar, who quickly signed them to a management and recording deal. Snider, a native of Ottawa, was behind the record company Chateau at the end of the 1950s and founded in late '67.
With the band rounded out by guitarists Steve Hayward and Dave Bernard, and drummer Lois Mutton, they worked with producers Dan Goldberg and Bob Stright in the spring of '73. They became one of the first acts to record for Snider's new venture, Periwinkle Records, releasing their debut album Awake a few months later. The bulk of the writing on the eight tracks was done by the Kellesis brothers, with Hayward penning two himself - the tempo-changing flowery-acid trip Sunny Side of he Day and Lost In the World. Heavy in sound, the band was likened to early Deep Purple, Rory Gallagher, Budgie, and fellow Torontonians..The songs relied heavily on fuzz guitar effects mixed with a raspy delivery from Shannon, and often extended keyboard and organ solos front and centre. Other noteable cuts included How Time Has Flown, In the Heavens and the title track.
No singles were released, contrary to Snider's modus operandi - whose labels were renowned for churning out acts on a steady basis in the hope of landing 'that one big hit. But with Jackal's songs more often than not exceeding the usual three-minute frames to get any airplay, and with little money to fund promotions or tours, the album quickly disappeared and became a collector's obscurity. Within a year or so of its release, the band also drifted into oblivion, with the members picking up new gigs in different bands off and on, but eventually all got day jobs and left the business all together.
Not to be mixed up with Jackyl.

DISKO BAND - HUSTLE HITS LP 76
This is a very fine sounding copycat band or per the comment from George Dimakis on the recent mecca of copycat tunes by T.E.J. records he schooled me on the theme: This is not a band. It is a studio project just like Disko Band. I'm really curious if they are actually the same as their version of Fly Robin Fly sounds exactly the same. Disko Band released it a year before Dimensional Sound on their album Hustle Hits on Canada. Enjoy!

SMALL WONDER - st LP 76 w Growin' LP 77
REPOST Request: What I wrote before: A big thanks to ClassicMusic20 for suggesting the band as the first album is a quirky rocker that sticks!
PETER PRINGLE - st LP 76 w Singles 77-81 w Rain Upon The Sea CD 81 w Fifth Avenue Blue CD 82 w Fantasies CD 84
REPOST Request: Well believe it or not I just watched a movie a few weeks ago from a Hollywood boxset and sure enough Peter Pringle was playing at the end. The movie is called "Toby McTeague" and it was shot primarily in the small town of Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, Quebec.
The film received two Genie Award nominations at the 8th Genie Awards in 1987, for Best Cinematography (René Verzier) and Best Original Song ("Cold As Ice" by Peter Pringle and Kevin Hunter). A minor controversy resulted when the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television mistakenly omitted "Cold As Ice" from the first ballots sent out to Academy votershttps://bestfile.io/en/BBzwNklmEXE1NGT/file
SPOONS [CAN] - Stick Figure Neighbourhood LP 81 w Arias & Symphonies CD 82 w Talkback CD 83 w Bridges Over Borders CD 86 w Vertigo Tango CD 88
REPOST and ADD ON: O.K. got the spoons bands sorted out and added Spooner at bottom but still can't find anything I may have had by a band I saw at the El Rey that year I worked in L.A. called Spoon who put on such a grand show. Oh well, had all these but the first album I ripped and posted long ago from defunct blog 80sOnSpeed unopened so have a ball! Cheers.

Christmas - Christmas CD 70 -cc
After two albums both issued in 1970, around 1973 they decided to made a slight adjustment to their name to become THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS also releasing in 1974 a new album called "Lies to Live By". At this point the band veered towards a more folk and progressive sound without forgetting their roots in hard rock. In 1975 the band disbanded.
