Dr. Strangely Strange - Kip Of The Serenes CD 69 w Heavy Petting CD 70 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Makes a fine selection for Valentine's Day posts this week like the next one.  Per Discogs:  Dr. Strangely Strange is an experimental/psychedelic Irish folk group formed in Dublin in 1967, recording two albums and touring widely before splitting up in May 1971. The band has reunited a number of times for tours and one-off live performances and also recorded a third album in 1996.

Founded by Tim Booth and Ivan Pawle in Dublin in 1967, Humphrey Weightman (guitar) played with them for their first show, in October 1967. Brian Trench (keyboards, vocals) played shows through 1968 until multi-instrumentalist Tim Goulding joined. Caroline "Linus (15)" Greville (percussion/vocals) was a member 1968-69. Gary Moore often augmented the band live on various instruments 1968-69, and also played lead guitar on the second album, in 1970. Drummer Neil Hopwood joined in 1970. Goulding left in early 1971, replaced by Gay Woods and Terry Woods for a 6-week European tour, after which the group dissolved.

Tim Booth led a new lineup through 1973. All other reunion lineups have have included Tim Booth (2), Tim Goulding, Ivan Pawle, and - since 1980 - Joe Thoma, sometimes augmented by other players as well.

EMERY, SCHMIDT & McCANN - BACKWOODS JAZZ LP 80 w SWEET FEET tape 82

I had found the Sweet Feet as a promo cassette at Goodwill and when I heard the hit song "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" it was very familiar to me like I had heard it in some coffee shop or something as quite catchy so I sought out their only other release on vinyl and both make for a great group of songs you really should hear as no longer copies.

THIN LIZZY - Life (Live) 2LP 83 w Deluxe BBC Files 2CD 91

REPOST Request:  Adding the double CD of the Deluxe BBC files I got in the blogsphere a while back.  What I wrote last post:  Ahhhh, me first excursion into this band after being such a Gary Moore fan and seeing him and old neighborhood buddy Phil hanging out in their hometown of Dublin in the laserdisc "Emerald Isles" that I had converted and posted here as MP4.

THE BOOMTOWN RATS - st LP 77 w A Tonic For The Troops LP 79 w The Fine Art Of Surfacing LP 79 w 12 EP 82 w V Deep LP 82

REPOST Request:  My older sister had the surfacing album back in the day.  Per Discogs:  Irish rock band, formed in 1975 in Garry Roberts' kitchen in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, the group originally took the name The Nightlife Thugs. They changed it during the interval of their first gig on October 31st 1975 to The Boomtown Rats, after Woody Guthrie's term for oilfield workers. The original lineup was Bob Geldof (vocals), Garry Roberts (lead guitar), Johnnie Fingers (keyboard), Pete Briquette (bass), Gerry Cott (rhythm guitar) and Simon Crowe (drums).

They recorded six studio albums and a string of successful singles. Cott left the band in 1981. The group remained together until just after the 1985 Live Aid concert of which Bob Geldof, KBE, was the organiser.

The group reformed in 2013, with original members Bob Geldof, Garry Roberts, Pete Briquette, and Simon Crowe joined by Alan Dunn and Darren Beale.

Mellow Candle - Swaddling Songs CD 72 - cc

TOP 100 RARE LIST:  Per Discogs:  Mellow Candle was a progressive rock/folk rock band. Principally Irish, the members were also unusually young with Clodagh Simonds being only 15 while Alison Bools (later O'Donnell) and Maria White only 16 years old. All three were still attending school at the time of their first single "Feelin' High" that was released in 1968 on Simon Napier-Bell's SNB Records label.

By 1972, the lineup had expanded to include Dave Williams on guitar, Frank Boylan on bass, and William Murray on drums. With this lineup in place, the band released their only album, Swaddling Songs (Deram Records), which was commercially unsuccessful at the time. Over the years, however, the lone album by the band has received considerable critical acclaim and original vinyl copies are now very valuable. Boylan was later replaced by Steve Borrill (ex-Spirogyra), but shortly afterwards the band split up

THE PROPHET KAHLIL GIBRAN - A Musical Interpretation Featuring RICHARD HARRIS, Music composed by ARIF MARDIN LP 74

Goes with above post for a short mini-theme this week involving prophecy in the titles as those kind of records tend to be top of the heap and very excellent.  This one I left as one file as the short themes were hard to pull out in the dialog and the cool songs were also intermixed together making separation difficult.  Richard Harris of course is the perfect narrator of the highest caliber for this jazz rock.

SINEAD O'CONNOR - The Lion And The Cobra CD 87 w I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got CD 89 90 w Faith And Courage CD 00

REPOST:  I am doing this repost to keep her music fresh in your mind as we all miss her great talent. R.I.P. Sinead.  Going to refer you to my blogger brother Nathan Nuthin's post of some great collaborations she did with others in the music industry:   https://nathannothinsez.blogspot.com/2023/07/from-scream-to-whisper.html that I also commented with a post that is good reading from my pal Drew in the legendary MN/Irish band 'Boiled In Lead'.  I can comment on Bi-Polar that she may have had as I had it for 10 years from riding a crooked bike after a car ran it over with me on it:  try Alphabiotics first as a simple neck jerk that works for under a $100.  Their school began in Texas farm country near start of the 1900's for farm workers and those with this full body crookedness since childbirth--they lay you on a sloped board then check hips for crookedness that shows up as one leg longer than the other.  Also about her weed usage I have been studying 'cortisol' from stress and how it can be stabilized by weed per google--but at what level--high or low?  In time at high levels it can cause muscle loss or sarcopenia into old age which you certainly don't want.  You can try listening to Georgi Dinkov talk about it:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BInReo00mlc  but I had to throw down my phone in anger trying to follow this fast talker right before bed and you don't want to go to bed angry or with high stress/cortisol!!!

HORSLIPS - Dancehall Sweethearts LP 74 w The Book of Invasions: A Celtic Symphony LP 76 w Aliens LP 77 w The Man Who Built America LP 79 w Short Stories Tall Tales LP 79

 REPOST Request:  From Discogs:

Horslips were the first "Celtic Rock" band in Ireland, releasing their first single in 1972. They disbanded in 1980, with some of their members going on to high profile careers (Eamon Carr as a journalist, Barry Devlin as a screenwriter and Jim Lockhart as a top Irish radio producer). The original line-up has reformed in 2005.

A note on CD editions:

All CD editions prior to 1999 are inferior. When Horslips split in 1981, the rights to their back catalogue were sold by their last tour manager to Outlet Records of Belfast. This was done without the bands consent. Outlet reissued all the albums on vinyl, cassette and eventually CD over the following years. The original editions of these CD issues are direct transfers (no mention of remastering on the covers) released in conjunction with Homespun Records of Dublin. Later Outlet issues are remasters with improved sound quality and cover artwork, but some still questioned their quality. In 1999, Horslips won a lengthy legal battle with Outlet, re-gaining the rights to their back catalogue, and ceasing all manufacture of Outlet editions. A new remastering program was launched and the first official CD remasters came out on Edsel Records in 2000. All subsequent CD issues are official remasters.

THE CLANCY BROTHERS AND TOMMY MAKEM - In Person At Carnegie Hall LP w Irish Pub Songs CD 90

REPOST Request:  What I had written before:  Now this Good Will St. Patrick's Day post is pretty awesome as it has some songs for which I had heard but didn't know the origins such as 'Patriot Game' as I had only heard the 'Blue Bells' version and oop's I guess it was the Dubliners below that did 'And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda'.

REPOST and ADD ON:  Found the excellent CD compilation on bottom from Goodwill, what I wrote before:  Was thrilled to find the first two prog rock albums stashed away in a bunch of Goodwill finds from long ago.  Very cool lyrics and prog rock-type songs that you don't see much these days and also added his 'Into The Light' which has his biggest song 'Lady In Red' which appears by chance on yet one more compilation on this blog that I posted below.

VA - IRISH PUB SONGS CD 00

I tried to avoid the stereotype on St. Patty's Day being name Patrick and part Scotch/Irish/English myself but this one seemed respectable.  The holiday became special to me when I was but a wee child when I got all excited to discover on my namesake holiday that I had laid a green poop on this day and showed it proudly to all my siblings, my first realization of how special I was (though green poop's are not that uncommon as a small child).  LOL  Enjoy the Day!   https://krakenfiles.com/view/ZMp1e0gyVp/file.html

VA - IRISH SINGALONG PARTY CD 00

Gotta keep in theme here.  This one from Goodwill and I haven't heard yet.  I threw in pictures from another CD that had a big scratch on it so I couldn't record it but had good info on the genre.

THE POGUES - Red Roses For Me tape 84 w Rum, Sodomy & The Lash CD 85 w Poguetry In Motion EP 86 w If I Should Fall From Grace With God LP 88 w Peace & Love LP 89 w The Very Best Of CD 01 w Essential Pogues CD 91 w Ultimate Collection Disc 2 (LIVE!!!) w Live Glastonbury Festival 06/20/1986

REPOST and ADD ON:  Well, found the first album I had on a tape one of my older brothers had made me when he went to Cambridge in U.K. for a couple semesters during his Macalister college days.  Gave me great opportunity to organize all the downloads besides my three vinyl rips from before and use absolute best version of all the songs!  Luckily (yes, I am a ''Patrick'' with Irish roots) the Ultimate having only on of the CD's someone had posted happened to be all killer live tunes!  Didn't know about all their producers:  Elvis Costello, Stan Brennan, Steve Lillywhite, Eamon Campbell and Joe Strummer!!  PDF inside showing this.
