 I enjoyed this vinyl and redid it from my Ortofon S-120 standard cart thru 9000+ rips to my back up for old loud vinyl or with skips STANTON basic cart which is 3 mV rating vs. 10 mV and really cleared up those loud groove wear areas.  She is a dynamo from U.K.  Per Discogs:  Real Name:  Shani Wallis

Profile:  English-American actress and singer.

Born April 14, 1933 in Tottenham, London, England, UK.

Wallis made her first stage appearance at the age of four, she later studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) on a scholarship. Wallis went on to play many leading roles in the West End, but she is best known for the role of Nancy in Carol Reed's 1968 film production of Lionel Bart's musical Oliver! which co-starred Ron Moody, Harry Secombe, Oliver Reed, Jack Wild and Mark Lester. Wallis has appeared with Liberace, Jack Benny, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

Wallis is a naturalized citizen of the United States, where she has lived for some time. She married her agent/manager Bernie Rich on Friday 13 September 1968. Asked, "Why on that day?" she replied, "Everything good has happened to me on Friday 13th and Shani means 'lucky jewel'. The couple have one child, Rebecca, and two granddaughters. She is also the sister of jazz drummer Leon Roy.

Wallis is a patron of the theatre charity The Music Hall Guild of Great Britain and America.

VA - DOWN TOWN DISCO VOL. 1 2 3 LPs 79 80 81

 Well I was flabbergasted when I saw this weird bridge between disco and new wave with even rock bands participating in this one mix per album side series I fished out of Europe at a great deal though the second vendor on discogs had volumes 2 & 3 the volume three was just missing a cover so having both saved on shipping.  As I did with a Viacom comp featuring stoner-style-new r&b I left each album side as one mix and also as songs but was tricky using my freeware at work to find the cuts.  Here are the WoW! artists and the first that grabbed my eye/ear was Flash & The Pan! then Roger Daltry, Debbie Jacobs, Olympic Runners, Jim Capaldi, Edwin Starr, Eddie Grant, Isaac Hayes, Roxy Music, Elton John, Nuggets, Michelle Freeman, Yvonne Elliman, Al Hudson, M, Spyro Gyra, Bill Lovelady, Jona Lewie, Giorgio Moroder, Kurtis Blow (I saw him on TV news when breakdancing broke into culture with his first album my older sister had), Shakatak, Barclay James Harvest, Lipps Inc., Rufus & Chaka Khan (see The American Breed post below), James Brown, The Crusaders, The J. Profile: The Academy of St Martin in the Fields (= ASMF) was founded in 1959 by Sir Neville Marriner and a group of London's leading orchestral players. Originally formed as a small conductorless string group, it spearheaded the 1960’s Baroque revival, and recorded and performed a rapidly expanding range of repertoire.

In 1988, the orchestra dropped the hyphens from its full name: Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

Profile: British conductor, violinist, and professor (born April 15, 1924, Lincoln, England and died October 2, 2016).

He studied at the Royal College of Music, London and Conservatoire National Supérieur De Musique Et De Danse De Paris. While a student, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra (in 1941). He was briefly a music teacher at Eton College Chapel. In 1948, he became a professor of the Royal College of Music. In 1948 or 1949, he took up the position of second violinist of the Martin String Quartet, continuing to play with the quartet for 13 years. Founder of the Virtuoso String Trio. Marriner joined The Jacobean Ensemble in 1951. He played the violin in two London orchestras: the Philharmonia Orchestra (1952-?), and the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) as principal second violin (1954–69). In 1958, he founded The Academy Of St. Martin-in-the-Fields (being its conductor and lead violin in early 1960s, before focusing to conducting), and his partnership with them is the most recorded of any orchestra and conductor. Marriner was the founder and first music director of The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, from 1969 to 1978. From 1979 to 1986, he was music director of the Minnesota Orchestra. He was principal conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1986 to 1989.

Marriner was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1979. He was created a Knight Bachelor in 1985. In the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH). He was appointed an officer of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Father of Andrew Marriner and Susie Marriner Harries, both from his first marriage with cellist, and later antiquarian bookseller, Diana Carbutt. In 1957, he married Elizabeth Sims, later Lady Elizabeth Marriner.

 Well this one certainly meets the weekly Classical Music theme per Discogs:  Real Name:  Julian Alexander Bream,  Profile:  British guitarist and lutenist.

Born: 15th July 1933 Battersea, London, England.

Died: 14th August 2020 Donhead St. Andrew, Wiltshire, England.

Widely recognized as one of the most important classical guitarists of the 20th century. Many contemporary composers have worked with Bream and dedicated pieces to him, and he has also been successful in renewing popular interest in the Renaissance lute.  Appointed as OBE in 1964 and CBE in 1985.

NOSTALGIC PSYCHEDELIC:  Well, announcing I am starting a one album per week series for the month of August and this is one extra from that (had the other stuff listed), so posting now and letting you all know.  I had seen a youtube reel with ten bands who were maybe novelty psychedelic oddities or missing the link currently but had the other five posted in the past.  The second album was listed and their cover song 'Black Dog' by Led Zeppelin--the first group I got all their vinyl from the RCA record club in junior high.  They have a few covers within so maybe I could group then into the Nightair band I just posted for the holiday as it had many very cool cover songs.  Here is the Discogs:  

Real Name:  Collective Consciousness Society

Profile:  CCS, were a British group formed by bluesman Alexis Korner and Danish vocalist Peter Thorup. The band itself also consisted of different studio casts who would be around, but also included Tony Carr (drums), Herbie Flowers (bass), Harold Beckett (trumpet), Harold McNair (woodwind), and Henry Lowther (trumpet), among others. This wasn’t all, as they were going for a unique sound to rival the top Rock acts of the day. So they would grab the creme de la creme of jazz studio musicians of the time which also included Kenny Wheeler, Les Condon and trombonist Don Lusher, mixed in with Ronnie Ross on baritone, Danny Moss on tenor, and Ray Warleigh on flute. The entire line up would always be subject to change throughout the band’s history, depending on personnel availability at recordings.

Freedom - Through The Years LP 71 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Well I always like to say this DU blog writes itself and so I merely had to swap last week's two choices which were last of the "F" letter titles so that these two 'Freedom" selections would fit right nicely into the slots this week...albeit neither are from the USA.  Per Discogs:  Freedom is a psychedelic/progressive rock band from England, United Kingdom, that was formed in 1967. The band split up in 1972. Formed initially by Procol Harum members Ray Royer and Bobby Harrison, who had performed on the hit single A Whiter Shade Of Pale. Royer and Harrison then formed Freedom with Steve Shirley and Tony Marsh, who was immediately replaced by pianist / organist Mike Lease, releasing two German singles and the soundtrack for the Tinto Brass/Dino De Laurentiis film Attraction (original title Nerosubianco (Colonna Sonora Originale Tratta Dal Film Omonimo), also known as Black on White). In 1968, Harrison entirely overhauled the group's membership, and the new line-up began recording with more of a hard rock sound, scoring tour dates with Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, and The James Gang. They achieved great renown for their excellent version of The Beatles song Cry Baby Cry on their second album Freedom At Last. Further line-up changes occurred before the band finally splintered in 1972, with Harrison going on to Snafu.

Fire - The Magic Shoemaker LP 70 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Per Discogs: Fire was a Hounslow, UK band that recorded between 1967 and 1970. They consisted of Dave Lambert (who later joined Strawbs), Bob Voice and Dick Dufall (also in Paul Brett Sage). Brett himself only joined them as guitar player on their lone studio album, which they also recorded live at a 2007 reunion.

 A huge thanks to Josef(Austria) for suggesting this album along with a missing New Riders of The Purple Sage album "Gypsy Cowboy" he said should have paved the way for this band's success instead of obscurity all below this post) as it has a great Grateful Dead type groove going for it the whole album.  I thus got into the spirit and bumped up the Collector's Choice band 'Mountain Bus' this week along with some other similar music excursions for the series all right below that happened to 'fit in'.  Enjoy!!!!
