Per Discogs:  Real Name: Bernard Witkowski, New York City, clarinet, bandleader
(December 10, 1913 New York, NY - 1986 Hillside, NJ)
The son and nephew of clarinet players, Bernie also played the piano, accordion, organ, saxophone, and drums. From age 16, he performed on the radio as part of the Orzel Biały (White Eagle) Orchestra. In 1932, Witkowski, together with fellow Orzel Biały musician Edward Bebko, formed the Silver Bell Orchestra and a smaller ensemble, called Trzy Gałgany (Three Ragamuffins). Both ensembles performed on the radio and, from 1934, made numerous recordings for Victor's International Series and labels specialized on Polish or international ethnic music, such as Dana, Standard, Standard International, and his own label, Stella Records.

Joe Lazarz: Indian Orchard, Massachusetts  violin, bandleader

The Chmielewski Brothers Orchestra
Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, USA
Florian Chmielewski organized the original Chmielewski Brothers Polka Band in 1955 with brothers Leonard, Jerry, Chester and Donny, leading to the production of his first TV show, “Polish TV Party", on WDSM-TV.

The show eventually became “Chmielewski Funtime", and Florian produced more than 2,000 episodes that were televised on 42 stations nationwide. By the 1970s, the band included a fourth generation of the family — Florian’s children, Florian Jr., Jeff, Mark and Patty. By 2014, a SIXTH generation of family members hit the stage.
The group later created the label and issued their songs on "Chmielewski Records" (C Records).  Florian Chmielewski later became a Senator in the United States, and this was reflected with the issue of an album titled "Funtime, The Swinging Senator" (C Records).

The band was known mostly for playing the "Oom-pah" style of polka music that originated from Germany and the German-speaking areas of Czechoslovakia. They enjoyed a 14-year recording career with RCA Victor, during which they recorded 800 songs. After parting ways with RCA, the band recorded for Dot Records for ten years. Fragile - st LP 76 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Per Discogs:  Fragile was an obscure Dutch-Indonesian band that played a heavy, twin guitar rock laced with some progressive and psychedelic elements. Their music is not unlike Cargo  or Wishbone Ash. Formed in Staphorst, Overijssel, The Netherlands, circa 1972, they recorded their sole LP 1974 (not released until 1976). Apparently, after the album was released, their rehearsal location including their equipment was burnt down. This didn't make them stop performing, but eventually they did disband the band due to lack of income.

Not sure who requested this band which luckily some Russian blog had just posted above, but I want to thank you since it came in handy when I was thanking my Dutch friend RYP over at Twilight Zone blogspot as they celebrated their 20th Blog Birthday Celebration!!!!  Back in MN one of the engineers I was working with was heavily into what he called European Symphonic Rock which is exactly how the Discog describes the band per:    Dutch symphonic rock band, founded in 1972 (previously known as High Tide Formation). Commercially most successful with their 1978 album "Phantom Of The Night", which included the (international) hit single "Ruthless Queen".  Here's to another 20 years!!!

CARILLO - Rings Around The Moon LP 78 w COLLEGE RADIO NETWORK PRESENTS CARILLO LP 78 w Street Of Dreams LP 79 w the Bandoleros - Bad Out There - Miles To Go - Rail to Kingdom Come w Someday w Doc Holliday - st CD w Golden Earring (2 Frank Albums) - Hot Soup w Kooymans Carillo

REPOST and ADD ON:  Friend to the DU blog Jon or Johann is/was a midwestern USA vinyl store clerk and here is what he said (very well too) since I still have the email from July 2024 (sorry so late!):  A number of years ago, under an alias, I requested a re-up of the Carillo albums which, as normal, you obliged. I didn't thank you then but I'll thank you now. Your comment on him began "Now this guy, Frank Carillo is a true master of rock, described as a 'musician's musician'." Yes sir! Couldn't have said it better myself and this needs to be shouted from the rooftops as it seems like so few know who he is.

I thought I'd expand your collection of his music (or what I know you have from what you have posted). Included in this zip file you will find everything I have collected from Frankie the Yankee over the years. Four albums by Frank Carillo and the Bandoleros; Bad Out There, Someday, Miles to Go and Rails to Kingdom Come (and, man do these things rock). Doc Holliday's lone album from 1973 and Hot Soup's lone album from 1969.

Somehow, in the early 2000's Frank got involved with the Netherland's Golden Earring (the Radar Love guys from the 70s.) I am also a huge (HUGE) Golden Earring fan and I have a DVD concert of theirs in which they introduce Frank as Frankie the Yankee, hence the name of the zip file. Can't find it on YouTube or I'd share it because it's damn good and the disc requires a PAL player so can't copy it with my laptop (not that I'd know how to anyway.) Enough with all that. Included here are two Golden Earring albums that Frank worked on, Millbrook USA (Frank's studio) and their final full length Tits 'n Ass. You know, for a bunch of old guys TnA rocked harder than most albums by younger guys in 2012. I've also included the Kooymans/Carillo from 2010 titled On Location. The Kooymans being George Kooymans from GE. This is a meeting of two outstanding yet commonly overlooked guitarists and is just a pleasure to my ears.  Everything with the exception of Doc Holliday and Hot Soup are ripped from my CDs and should be at 320. If you find one that isn't let me know and I'll fix that.

AND JON FOR YOU I HAVE ADDED THE COLLEGE RADIO INTERVIEW ALBUM, ENJOY and THANK YOU!!!  I have still the hip hop I will share with more time.  CHEERS!!!

BOB STEWART - LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE LP 56

Well I've tried countless times to find this on Discogs for background but I knew it was worded goofy off a later release but anyway a kind of cool crooner (most are throw away for me from Goodwill but I do love the over-the-top crooners like this guy!).  A fine pick for VD day as my older sister used to call it.  Per Discogs I did find this on the Mat Mathews (take note Richard!):  Real Name: Mathieu Hubert Wijnandts Schwarts

Profile: Dutch jazz accordionist, born 18 June 1924 in The Hague, died 12 February 2009.  Married actress Paulette Girard (Married July, 1951, divorced).

After playing in the Dutch group De Millers 1947-1950 and performing on BBC radio, Mathews moved to New York in 1953, recording several albums with Mat Mathews Quintet and working in studios in New York before returning to the Netherlands in 1964, where he worked for television, radio, and films. He worked with De Millers again from 1968.

Crying Wood - Back To The Mountains CD 74 -cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Per Discogs:  Dutch prog rock band.

In the mid sixties the band The Goldstar Brothers was formed by singer Andre Groote, guitarist Henk Groote and drummer Ben Groote. Later they changed their name to G-Brothers and finally to Geebros. They were joined by organ player Lol Nijhuis, who was replaced by Hennie Backers in 1968. The music was somewhat psychedelic. In 1969 their musical interest changed and they choose yet another name: Crying Wood. By this time they made heavy progressive music. The band toured intensively and even recorded an album in 1970, which was called “Back To The Mountains”. Several line up changes follow, and the band finally ends in 1976.

Members:

Hennie Backers - Organ, Piano

Ben Groote - Drums, Vocals

Cor Mestebeld - Bass Guitar

TONY LEEUWENBURGH (Tony Loveslug) from Nitwitz, BGK and Loveslug MEMORIAL POST

R.I.P. to Tony Leeuwenburgh who passed on October 7th this year--you can read about it from the old Maximum Rock & Roll editor Jeffrey Bale who was very close friends with him and posted about it on his mega page.  I couldn't find the other two vinyl Mark Underground had posted back in 2008 but Willfully Obscure blog had my back with at least on of the three that were posted before.
