I remember these guys/girls. A local Washington DC band. They opened for someone, I forget who, but I remember they were pretty good and I liked their album. It's be interesting to hear how it's aged. NPR now runs a series of short concerts in a small space called Tiny Desk Concerts. Since they're also DC based, I imagine the name was inspired by this band.
The host of "Tiny Desk Concerts" is Bob Boilen. He was a member of Tiny Desk Unit.
That pretty much explains it then!
