THE SYSTEM - Sweat EP 83 w X-Periment LP 84 w The Pleasure Seekers LP 85 w Don't Disturb This Groove 7 w LP 87 w Coming To America EP 88 w I Wanna Be Your Lover EP 89 w Rhythm And Romance LP 89

REPOST Request:  The early stuff by this NY band is like it says experimental, which is cool.  The latter stuff is really no different from what Paul Weller and the Style Council were doing at the same time.  But after they make it big with the movie soundtrack, they get gentrified into that generic Michael Jackson R & B sound so you may want to skip the last link.  Interesting side note:  I saw a post somewhere about a little girl who saw hell and said Michael Jackson and Selena were there and people who listened to their music would also go to hell!  LOL very interesting...

My first exposure to these guys was by hearing Robert Palmer cover "You Are in My System" on his "Pride" album, and I got curious about the original version so I bought the System's album and LOVED it. Then when they hit it big a few years later with "Don't Disturb This Groove," I was so disappointed -- I liked that song, but the rest of the album it was one sounded like, IMO, just boring easy-listening songs instead of the funky dance-y stuff they used to do.

Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of adult contemporary/easy listening music. Some of it is relaxing and pleasant to listen to. But a lot of it is just bland, faceless music that I can't get into. And sadly (for me, anyway) that's what this band devolved into.
